Monster Hunter Rise Explains New Rampage Quest Type | Game Rant

Monster Hunter Rise is going to be hitting shelves later this month, and a new game mode has been revealed. While the series is famous for players taking down dangerous beasts, there are various modes available in the games. A trailer from Capcom is out now showcasing the details of the unique Rampage mode for Monster Hunter Rise.

The Monster Hunter games have been around for years, with the original game releasing in 2004. A recent entry, Monster Hunter: World was positively reviewed and drew in more fans due to a jump back to consoles from a long stint of handheld versions. The newest title is heading back to Nintendo Switch, but is looking to bring a unique twist to the gameplay with various mechanics and modes.

Promotional material for the game will occasionally show a horde of monsters stampeding through. It looks like this was not just for the story, but also teasing a special mode available in Monster Hunter Rise called Rampage. Rather than exploring the wilds and taking down a beast or two, players need to defend the stronghold of Kamura from a mob of creatures. Hunters will utilize their personal kits, weaponized installations, and AI allies to quell the rampage. Since the monsters attack in groups at breakneck speeds, players will need to think quickly and respond to the moment.

Within the stronghold, hunters can set up artillery like cannons and ballista to take down the vicious beasts. While Rampage includes many creature types, they are split into Blue, Red, and Green targets. Blues focus on breaking stronghold walls, Reds are especially dangerous for Hunters, and Greens harass the squad with projectiles. There are also Major Threat and Apex Monsters which pose the greatest hazard to the stronghold’s defenses. During the Counter Signal, hunters can jump into the fray to battle normally too. If things are looking dicey, call in allies from the Kamura Village base to help, though this can only be done once per quest.

Rampage is looking like an epic game mode addition to the series. With varying tiers of weapon kits to learn in Monster Hunter Rise, grinding monster battles is a standard part of the experience. But with this mode, players can enjoy massive scale battles requiring coordination and strategy. Rampage should be a nice change of pace from going up against one or two monsters at a time.

Then again, others may see the mode as a gimmick that dilutes the experience. Hunting down creatures is core to Monster Hunter, but Rampage removes that aspect entirely. Plus, the reliance on artillery takes away the focus on player builds and skills. That said, overall it should provide a fun way to battle in Monster Hunter Rise.

Monster Hunter Rise will launch for the Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021, and a PC in 2022.
