Last year, Disney Plus announced a partnership with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, allowing those subscribed to Microsoft’s flagship service a 30-day free trial to the streaming platform. The deal expired at the end of January, leading many to believe that it was merely a cross-promotional offer to help market The Mandalorian‘s second season and entice more players to sign up to Game Pass.
However, it seems Disney and Microsoft are still working together to help market their platforms, with the pair releasing an ad today that promotes The Falcon and the Winter Solider and Game Pass. Clocking in at just 45 seconds, the ad centers around Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon trying to catch up on what he missed in the five years since he was erased from existence during Avengers: Infinity War.
Throughout the trailer, the superhero talks to a cashier at a video game store, regaling his story about the battle for earth and uniting with the Avengers to take down Thanos. Losing five years of his life, he asks what he needs to catch up on now he’s finally back from the dead, with the cashier pointing to an Xbox Series X and S. The promo cuts to gameplay from some of Game Pass’s biggest titles and a teaser for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It’s a fun advert and one that implies Disney and Microsoft continue to foster a good relationship.
Marvel fans will no doubt be reeling from the recent conclusion to the widely-talked-about Wandavision, however, it isn’t long until The Falcon and The Winter Soldier graces Disney Plus. The show debuts on March 19, bringing both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan together for a team-up story about Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes (AKA, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, respectively). The tale will follow the pair protecting a world without Captain America, with Wilson having to come to terms with the fact he was entrusted with the iconic superhero’s mantel following the events of Endgame. The show will bring back Captain America: Civil War‘s Baron Zemo as its main antagonist and feature the return of Sharon Carter.
As for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the service recently received some new games, including Dirt 5, Madden 21, and Star Wars Squadrons. Seeing as Bethesda and Microsoft are now officially under the same roof, it will also get an influx of the publisher’s most notable titles, although it hasn’t been announced which games made the cut just yet.
