Persona 5 and subsequent additions to the series like Royal and Strikers have created a vast network for developers to utilize not only lore and character development, but also to have some fun with nuances and Easter eggs. Loyal players to the series will notice a great deal of overlap between the Persona games. This attention to detail and plot creates a string of continuity and permanence of characters that is not only fun to keep up with but creates a hunt for hidden details throughout the storyline and combat scenes.

While the game continues to expand on itself, let’s go through some of the most beloved references and Easter eggs found in Persona 5.

10 President Tanaka’s Black Market

President Tanaka played a role in both Persona 3 and Persona 4, so naturally, players will get a mention from the shady political figure. While adventuring outside of Cafe Leblanc, there is a broken laptop laying around discarded. Gathering computer repair tools from the hardware store in Akihabara players can repair the tech to function once more. Interacting with and logging into the system on the laptop grants access to a myriad of rare items that vary depending on the day.

While having rare items is always a welcome sight, it is interesting that this black market of rare goods is overseen by the shady Tanaka. In previous games, President Tanaka plays significant roles throughout the course of the stories and reveals his more business-minded priorities, fully supporting his underground sales of items in Persona 5.

9 Light Reading

Futaba’s room is a treasure hoard of pop-culture references and Easter eggs present within the cluttered location. While the entirety of her room seems to be thrown about on the floor with various books and texts, one of the scattered novels immediately stands out from the others.

This book bears the signature of Aperture Science, which can be considered a friendly nod by developers from Atlus to the well-known Portal game series.

8 Hello, Nurse Uehara!

Throughout the events of Persona 5, players can rely on Takemi to procure supplies. At one point during the game’s events, she calls a hospital and speaks to a Nurse Uehara. Uehara was present in Persona 4 and played a significant role in the events of that game. Interesting to note is that Uehara is still working as a nurse at the Municipal Hospital after the events of that storyline concluded.

While players do not interact with the nurse in this storyline directly, there is a dedication from Atlus to continue the lives of characters long out of the spotlight of the game series. Furthermore, Persona continues to have its references present in the new series which creates a flow of events from one game to the next.

7 Catherine

While the Persona series is one of the most beloved and notable of Atlus’ creations, the developers have an intent of merging the various characters and elements from other games and characters into the storyline. Specifically, in Persona 5, Futaba’s room also has a large figurine of a female character placed on top of a shelf in the corner. Upon closer inspection, the blonde woman is Catherine, from another one of Atlus’ series.

Catherine is another game under the same studio that consists of puzzle-style gameplay that revolves around a man with supernatural nightmares and having to choose between two women; Katherine and Catherine. Atlus has never shied away from including its own characters in various storylines, with this Easter egg being a prime example of that.

6 Love On The Battlefield

Metal Gear Solid has created many iconic scenes and lines deserving of such a heavyweight gaming title, and Persona 5 picked up that humor and dialogue to add it to its own storyline. While the Joker is battling shadows throughout the course of the game, several options appear to talk or speak.

One of those options is a line made famous by Metal Gear Solid, “I heard love can bloom on the battlefield, don’t you think that is possible?” The line randomly appears throughout the gameplay so the spawning of that dialogue option is not certain.

5 The Amagi Inn

Throughout the events of Persona 4, players had to traverse different locations to complete the quests given. One of these areas significant to the completion of the plot was Amagi Inn and a woman named Yukiko Amagi.

Yukiko is regarded as a beautiful woman who resides at the Inn, and her storyline is subtly added into the events of Persona 5. On the Morning Show for Japan, the news article discusses the Amagi Inn and how beautiful and refreshing the services are there. The anchor goes on further to state that Yukiko is beautiful and the trip would be worth it just to see her instead of going to the springs and inn.

4 Go Go Power Rangers!

Futaba has a habit of collecting pop-culture icons present within the game itself and from adjoining series, one of which is the Feathermen she has poised on a shelf in her room as well. The Feathermen are clearly knock-offs of Power Rangers, who themselves pulled inspiration from Japan’s Sentai Men. The Feathermen do poses and behave in a fashion similar to the tv show stars, and therefore garner a lot of attention.

Additionally, Yusuke enters the room and immediately takes an interest in the figurines. After a while, it is seen that he has altered their positions and poses into a very familiar form. Fans of Dragon Ball will recognize the Ginyu Force pose that the Feathermen are placed into by Yusuke, having the developers give another nod towards a famous franchise.

3 The Original Detective Prince

Another popular character that was significant to the storyline in Persona 4, Naoto makes an appearance in the fifth installment of the series as well. Going downstairs after waking up on the 29th, Naoto is called by name of the TV show playing in the area. She is called the Original Detective Prince and continues on talking about her work and the continuation of her legacy from the previous game.

Naoto was a beloved character from Persona, so there is a factor of nostalgia to the develops at Atlus deciding to factor in her work and what the detective has been up to since the last game.

2 Vote Namatame!

Namatame is found again in Persona 5 after facing a long downfall of events in the course of Persona 4. The city council’s secretary begins unassumingly as a man married to a wealthy singer that serves his post dutifully. However, once the allegations of his affair with a TV announcer break the headlines, he is left in ruins and without much hope during the game. It is learned in Persona 5 that Namatame has officially begun to run for political office again, being seen as a newcomer to the field given his utter lack of prior political experience besides being a secretary.

1 Quest For The Dragon Ball

Learning in class is an integral part of bettering the characters in Persona 5. Thankfully, Atlus doesn’t make this a completely boring experience for the players. Different dialogue options appear for the players to choose depending on the question and image given, with various funny choices to make.

One of the more easy-to-spot Easter Eggs is when the character is asked what the man is holding in his hand. Of the four options, A dragon ball is a humorous suggestion that alludes to the Dragon Ball franchise.
