Anti-piracy firm Denuvo brings anti-cheat tools to PS5

Developers and publishers can get rid of bad actors in their games on Sony’s console.

Anti-tamper company Denuvo has brought its tools to fight cheating to PS5.

The firm has joined the console’s tool and middleware scheme, meaning that developers and publishers will be able to use this anti-cheat tech in their games on PlayStation 5.

“Cheating ruins video games for honest players,” Denuvo MD Reinhard Blaukovitsch said.

“This can lead to lower engagement, game traffic and shrinking revenues for game publishers. We are really proud be able to help the world’s most talented developers to bring rich experiences for gamers on PlayStation 5.”

Denuvo is most famous for its anti-tamper tech which is designed to make pirating games much harder. Though once seen as unstoppable, projects using the tech have been cracked, with Denuvo saying that it was “hard to crack, not uncrackable.”

The firm has come under fire for a variety of topics, including impacting performance, by some corners of the games community, though the company contests those claims.

Denuvo started making Anti-Cheat software in 2019. Titles like Doom Eternal have used the tech, but it was removed a week after launch. Anti-Cheat also came to Steamworks in January of this year.
