It has been a long wait, but Marvel’s Avengers is about to have a huge content drop on March. The big update not only delivers the game’s second free add-on character with the release of Clint Barton, but there is a ton of other content arriving in the game, as well. In addition to the new story missions that go along with Clint’s journey since A-Day, there are some other noteworthy additions that should help players stay busy for at least a few weeks until hype for the next big patch starts up again.
One of the main criticisms of Marvel’s Avengers since its launch has been a lack of fresh content to keep players engaged in the title week after week. The initial bugs have largely been handled, but the weekly rotation of priority missions isn’t quite enough to keep the hardcore grinders satisfied week after week when there are months between character and operation additions. March 18 should put a temporary end to that content drought with a decent list of exciting additions.
Next Thursday when the new content makes its way into the game, the full patch should include all of the following content. At this point, no other additions have been confirmed, but time will tell if there are any surprises in store…
March 18 will mark the addition of the game’s second free add-on character – Clint Barton Hawkeye. Clint follows Kate and his story will act as a direct follow up to her operation (which largely involved hunting down Clint and figuring out what kind of trouble he’s gotten himself into).
“Clint is the steadfast hunter, taking down his foes with powerful, precise hits one at a time until he’s the only one left standing. Clint’s bow skills are second to none in the Marvel universe, and with intrinsics that boost his single-target attack potential and an arsenal of many different arrow types at his disposal, he’s a one-man-army to be reckoned with. We also took inspiration from his Ronin period to create his sword abilities, which makes him a powerful melee and ranged hero.”
Along with the new playable hero, the big update will also include a series of new missions under the Operation Hawkeye Future Imperfect banner. Endgame players will likely fly through these pretty quickly, but it will be exciting to see the next chapter of the story play out for the reassembled Avengers.
There has been some controversy surrounding the new villain and accusations that it is just a reskin, but either way, players are getting a new villain dropped into the rotation. New villains has been a major request from the playerbase since the game launched, so it will be interesting to see how this one delivers.
Much like new villains, new biomes are always in high demand, as well. One thing lacking in the Avengers game is a lot of variety in landscape and villain types, so hopefully each patch continues to build on these additions.
This is a pretty exciting one for a lot of gamers. The current gen upgrades are free for players who own the corresponding version for PS4 or Xbox One and should provide some nice visual and performance enhancements.
Although there is currently no chapter selection functionality, players will finally be able to replay the campaign starting on March 18.
A late addition to the slate seems to be the ability to customize HARM room challenges. This has been a frequent request since launch as well and it’s exciting to see the devs take the first step towards building out some more interesting uses of the HARM room.
