Valheim: How to Craft All Arrows | Game Rant

Valheim players won’t want to venture out into the world without armor, a good shield, some food, and of course a bow and arrows. There are several types of arrows in Valheim that players can craft, and some of them are incredibly powerful.

When a player is first starting out, they can make themselves a crude bow out of Valheim‘s leather scraps and some wood. The most basic arrows are also made of some wood; this is good news, as players will want to start taking out deer as soon as possible. Their skins will be needed for almost all armor in the future, upgrades for the Workbench, and deer trophies are needed to take on the first boss as well. The stats for the basic wood arrows are:

  • Wood x8 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 1 Workbench
  • Pierce – 22
  • Knockback – 10

The next step up from wood arrows is the Flinthead arrow. These can be crafted at a level two upgraded Valheim workbench with flint, which is found in and around shallow waters in the Meadows. If a player is using an older computer and has the draw distance all the way down on their graphics settings, flint may not appear to them until their character is standing over it, making it much harder to find, but it is plentiful and should be fairly easy to get. Flint looks like smooth, pale grey stones.

  • Wood x8, Flint x2, and Feathers x2 make 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 2 Workbench
  • Pierce – 27
  • Knockback – 10

Fire arrows are still a pretty basic arrow when it comes to materials, but it comes with the added bonus of setting whatever a player hits with it on fire. The pierce damage inherent in arrows is coupled with the fire damage, making going out to farm the resin from Greylings or small trees worth the extra effort. Like many of the other elemental arrows and some of the heavier armor sets in Valheim, these slow a player’s movement speed by 5%.

  • Wood x8, Resin x8, and Feathers x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 2 Workbench
  • Pierce – 22
  • Fire Damage – 11
  • Knockback – 10
  • Movement Speed Debuff of 5%

Frost arrows in Valheim are made from freeze glands, which are only dropped from Drakes in the Mountain biome. However, it’s worth farming them for the added benefit of being able to slow opponents and kill Surtlings with a single shot.

  • Wood x8, Obsidian x4, Feathers x2, and Freeze gland x1 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 4 Workbench
  • Pierce – 26
  • Frost Damage – 52
  • Knockback – 10
  • Movement Speed Debuff of 5%

While hiding and shooting her with arrows, players can kill Valheim‘s fourth boss Moder solo with less than 200 arrows and an upgraded Draugr fang. These arrows hit hard and poison the enemy for a significant amount. They are even fairly effective against wild lox, making these arrows worth delving into the Swamp biome for ooze’s to kill worth the time.

  • Wood x8, Obsidian x4, Feathers x2, and Ooze x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 3 Workbench
  • Pierce – 26
  • Poison Damage – 52
  • Knockback – 10

Unlike the previous arrows in this list, bronze arrows require a forge to make. If players have a few extra bronze laying around, it may be worth it to make some of these. They hit harder than some of the other early game arrows. However, since it takes 2 copper bars and 1 tin bar to make 1 single bronze bar, it may not be worth it to give up precious bronze for the boost in damage. Perhaps it would be better served in going to make that bronze pickaxe that Valheim players will want as early as possible.

  • Wood x8, Bronze x1, and Feathers x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 1 Forge
  • Pierce – 32
  • Knockback – 10

Like Bronzeheads, Ironhead arrows also need a forge. Thankfully, scrap iron gives Valheim players iron bars in a one-to-one ratio, so it may be a little less precious to players.

  • Wood x8, Iron x1, and Feathers x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 1 Forge
  • Pierce – 42
  • Knockback – 10

Obsidian arrows require obsidian from Valheim‘s Mountain biome. While obsidian requires that players have an iron pickaxe and is mined like metals, players don’t have to smelt it before use. This makes obsidian, which spawns in perfusion in the Mountains, a great basis for making many arrows. If these didn’t have the movement speed debuff, they would be Valheim‘s perfect arrow.

  • Wood x8, Obsidian x4, and Feathers x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 3 Workbench
  • Pierce – 52
  • Knockback – 10
  • Movement Speed Debuff of 5%

In Valheim, the undead are allergic to silver. This pure metal deals extra spirit damage to skeletons, Draugr and Draugr Elites, ghosts, wraiths, and Rancid Remains.

  • Wood x8, Silver x1, and Feathers x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 3 Forge
  • Pierce – 52
  • Spirit Damage – 20
  • Knockback – 10

The most powerful arrow in the game, needle arrows are made from the stingers of the extremely aggressive and dangerous Deathsquitoes. These terrifying, giant, blood-sucking, mosquito-like bugs flit about the Plains, able to kill unsuspecting players something with a single sting. They are such a threat in fact that they have become a meme among Valheim fans. If players can kill them, however, they can turn the power of that sting against their enemies. And the best part? No movement speed loss.

  • Needle x4 and Feathers x2 makes 20 arrows
  • Requires Level 4 Workbench
  • Pierce – 62
  • Knockback – 15

Since nearly every arrow recipe requires feathers, players may be wondering the best way to get them in bulk. Players can try to kill the crows, seagulls, and other birds that flit about, but they are quick and hard to kill. Players may end up wasting more arrows than they get feathers for. Feathers can also drop when a player cuts down a tree, but the drop rate is not reliable.

The best place for those looking to score a bunch of feathers quickly and easily are Burial Chambers and Troll Caves, the dungeons in the Black Forest biome. These caves contain Surtling Cores, yellow mushrooms, money and valuables for the trader, and chests filled with feathers, flint arrows, and other useful items. An in-game day searching through these caves usually turns up about 30-40 feathers, which is enough for 300-400 of any type of arrow that needs them.

Valheim is currently in Early Access for PC.
