Out of all of the games published by Bethesda, it is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that is the indisputable king when it comes to longevity and replayability. Despite the fact that it was released in 2011 and will be turning 10 years old this year, Skyrim is still very popular among fans of RPGs and open-world action games alike. This is mainly due to the strong modding community, which continues to put out increasingly creative modifications to keep the players interested in Bethesda’s masterpiece.
Another factor that contributes to maintaining Skyrim’s popularity levels is the relatively high number of streamers who continue to put out content from this game, most of the best ones publishing their content on YouTube. While still quite popular, Skyrim is still nearly a 10-year-old game, and as such doesn’t generate much of a buzz on Twitch. There are, however, some Skyrim creators who still put out great, watchable content on a regular basis, though!
10 PredCaliber
PredCaliber is a YouTuber who is really, really into open-world games and maxing out all of the possible graphical options in whatever game he’s playing at any given moment. Fans will find videos of high-resolution, ultra graphical settings from most of the modern open-world RPGs, and not only. PredCaliber doesn’t only specialize in graphics showcasing. He has recently started a “Let’s Play” series of Skyrim, and releases new episodes on a daily basis.
He plays the game with quite a few next-gen graphics mods installed, making the game look like it was released in the late PS4 era. PredCaliber’s series is a must-watch for Skyrim fans whose rigs are not powerful enough to handle these mods, but would still like to experience the fifth Elder Scrolls entry in all of its next-gen glory.
9 Zero Period Productions
Zero Period’s YouTube channel is a true gold mine of The Elder Scrolls-related content. His videos cover the best and most interesting mods for both Skyrim and Oblivion, but also other TES games, such as the Elder Scrolls Online or Morrowind. Nearly every video is related to one or more specific mods, but it wouldn’t be fair to call them mod showcases. They’re enriched by entertaining voiceovers and exciting gameplay sequences.
This channel is the go-to choice for players who are looking for new, cool Skyrim mods to install, as well as those who are simply curious about what can be done with Skyrim in 2021.
8 JDM Skyrim
This Skyrim YouTuber, JDM Skyrim, is dedicated to showcasing the power of mods, with a particular focus on modifications that add anime-inspired outfits, weapons, and character models. This theme is quite obvious and can be seen after the first glance at JDM Skyrim’s uploads. One of those mods even adds Paimon from Genshin Impact to Skyrim and has her follow the player character throughout the game.
Aside from visual overhauls, they also publish videos of mods that transform Skyrim’s gameplay to resemble combat from Souls-like titles and ones that add new animations and textures to the game’s engine. If not for the titles, it would be impossible to guess that they’re playing Skyrim! This channel is a testament to how much can be done with Bethesda’s titles with the right mods.
7 Longbrow Gaming
The Longbrow Gaming channel has a little bit of everything. He records videos about all sorts of video games, from The Elder Scrolls series to the original Doom titles. The majority of the channel is dedicated to Skyrim, though. Fans will find some pretty original content, from rankings of the best taverns and hairstyles to some creative comedy videos related to the game.
At almost 14,000 subscribers, he is not the most popular Skyrim streamer out there, but he definitely deserves some more recognition. He recently started uploading videos of his wife’s first playthrough of Skyrim, and it’s some pretty funny stuff. Players tired of the usual mod showcase channels will find Longbrow Gaming to be a much-needed breath of fresh air in The Elder Scrolls YouTube niche.
6 Lyle Shnub
Lyle Shnub’s YouTube channel is a great space for RPG fans. Most of the content is presented in the episodic, “let’s play” format, and he uploads a few videos per day, which makes Lyle Shnub’s channel one of the most consistent Skyrim streamers on YouTube in 2021. Aside from Skyrim, Shnub uploads episodes of his adventures in Morrowind, Disco Elysium, and Cyberpunk 2077, just to name a few.
He gets very invested in the fates and development of his characters, and almost always has something interesting or funny to say about what’s going on on the screen, which is something that should be common among most game streamers, but unfortunately, it isn’t.
5 Rycon Roleplays
Another role-playing enthusiast, Rycon Roleplays takes his let’s play videos to the next level. In his most recent Skyrim series, he’s taken the permadeath approach (no saves, no reloads). Once his character is dead, that’s it. It makes it all the more entertaining to watch, and it’s really fun to see Rycon get attached to the character knowing that a few silly mistakes may set him back right to the beginning of the game.
Rycon also streams other games, including Fallout 4 and even some text-based titles like Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. Finally, every now and then, he uploads videos of tabletop D&D sessions. They’re pretty long but surprisingly easy to get into once given a shot!
4 Sorcerer Dave
SorcererDave is a streamer who doesn’t hide the fact that he considers Morrowind to be the best Elder Scrolls game, but this does not mean that he doesn’t upload any Skyrim videos. His content is professionally made, and always provides a decent dose of entertainment.
Fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise as a whole will feel right at home on Sorcerer Dave’s channel, as he regularly uploads content from all of the games in the series, including the 24-year-old Daggerfall. As a seasoned veteran of the series, Dave’s a walking TES encyclopedia and often incorporates his in-depth lore knowledge into the content he creates.
3 MxR Mods
With over 2 million subscribers on YouTube, the MxR Mods channel does not need an introduction. The successful streamer’s uploads showcase some of the most popular Skyrim mods, as well as mods for some other games. Although it is another one of the mod showcase channels, MxR is a true professional who has been in the streaming business for over a decade.
His Skyrim Mods Weekly series is getting close to 300 episodes and was one of the first series of its kind uploaded onto YouTube. Skyrim fans who are not familiar with MxR’s content yet owe it to themselves to give this channel a shot.
2 Gopher
Gopher is another one of the “big time” YouTubers who still make Skyrim-related content in 2021, and do it in style. Some of his most entertaining recent series include “Skyrim Books” and the playthroughs of Skyrim: Special Edition. The majority of Gopher’s videos are very lore-heavy. Players who would love to dig deeper into the fascinating world of the Elder Scrolls’ lore and history of Tamriel should definitely subscribe to this channel and follow the “Skyrim Books” series very closely. The lore is presented in bite-sized videos that have the potential to save gamers a lot of time they’d otherwise spend searching for that same information in-game.
1 Shirley Curry
A word of warning to those who have not heard of Shirley Curry and are about to look her up. It’s probably going to be the most wholesome thing you’ll see all day. Shirley Curry is an 85-year-old grandmother to 9 grandchildren whose greatest hobby is playing Skyrim. She was introduced to the game by her son back when it first came out, and she hasn’t looked back since.
Shirley Curry uploads content nearly every single day, so fans don’t have to wait long for new videos to drop, and those new to her creations have a very sizeable backlog to go through. Watching Shirley’s videos is not only heartwarming — she is a seasoned Skyrim pro, and even though she’s not into mods, players can still learn a thing or two from her.
