Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut Delayed | Game Rant

Gearbox Software has to be given an incredible amount of credit. The vast majority of post-launch content for Borderlands 3 has been released in the middle of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. From Guns, Love, and Tentacles‘ release in March 2020 through the Designer’s Cut’s launch this past November, Borderlands 3 players have been spoiled for new content. Unfortunately, the bad luck kept coming. Texas was hit by extreme storms, and the resulting challenges have caused Gearbox to delay Borderlands 3‘s upcoming Director’s Cut.

In a short statement released via social media, Gearbox confirmed that the Director’s Cut for Borderlands 3 will no longer be released in March. Instead, the Director’s Cut will receive a delay of near a month. The new release date for the Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut add-on will be April 8. Obviously, that’s not too severe of a delay at all. Still, Gearbox wanted to be transparent about the situation so that Borderlands 3 fans wouldn’t be disappointed.

The reason for the delay is, as stated, the recent severe weather in Texas that left most of the state dealing with rolling power outages. Gearbox was able to confirm that all of its employees in the area, many working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are safe and healthy. It’s just their work that was disrupted. The delay will allow these hardworking devs to continue finishing the Director’s Cut add-on without having to overdo it.

The Director’s Cut add-on is the second half of Borderlands 3‘s Season Pass 2. It will add a substantial amount of new content to the game. This includes an epic new boss fight against the “most fearsome” of the Varkids, Hemovorous the Invincible. There’s also a curious new murder mystery storyline to follow that will have players traveling planet to planet. And three new Vault Cards, which will offer progressive unlocks through the rest of 2021.

The last piece of content included in the Director’s Cut is a special behind-the-scenes look at Borderlands 3‘s development. This includes video footage including bloopers, concept art, storyboards, and even a loot at cut content for Borderlands 3. This content is something that definitely adds a sort of finality to the Director’s Cut DLC.

On that note, many Borderlands 3 players are curious whether Borderlands 3‘s Director’s Cut add-on will prove to be the last major DLC release for Borderlands 3. While it definitely seems that way, anything is possible in the future. Gearbox released a DLC pack for Borderlands 2 seven years after launch, after all. Either way, Borderlands 3‘s Director’s Cut add-on will hopefully provide enough content to keep players happy until Gearbox is ready to share more about what’s coming next.

Borderlands 3 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
