Falcon And Winter Soldier Theories Might Be Bigger Than WandaVision

As the first MCU show to premiere on Disney Plus, WandaVision proved fans are just as eager to follow the MCU into the television format as they are with the movies. In fact, due to its weekly release schedule, WandaVision became the source of endless fan theories that helped make it the most talked-about show on television. With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier set to premiere next week, one star of that show thinks the fan theories will be even bigger.

Canadian MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre will be reprising his role as Batroc in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, marking his first appearance as the character since he debuted in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While speaking to Complex about his role in the new MCU show, St-Pierre compared it to WandaVision‘s penchant for inspiring fan theories, saying, “It could be even bigger. It’s huge. They put so much budget into this thing it’s incredible.”

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will follow the dysfunctional partnership of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as they deal with the aftermath of Steve Rogers’s departure and how to carry on the legacy of Captain America. Fans have already started buzzing about various aspects of the show, from Helmut Zemo’s plan to the mysterious new Captain America to rumors of other MCU characters making appearances. While St-Pierre’s comments seem to suggest a mystery element at the center of the story, he went on the admit that he was told little about the overall series and is only aware of his own part in it.

From the first episode, fans attempted to dissect every aspect of WandaVision for clues of any big reveals to come. Some popular theories suggested there would be a cameo from Doctor Strange, an appearance by Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards or the X-Men, or perhaps the villainous Mephisto was hiding in plain sight. Most of these theories proved false, leading to a divided reaction to the finale.

Fans of the MCU have always been passionate when it comes to speculation, especially about how each project will tie into the larger MCU story and set up future projects. That sort of involvement from fans can be fun, but WandaVision showed the problem of when speculation leads to expectation. While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will no doubt inspire sleuthing from fans, it’s hard to imagine it will match what happened with WandaVision. It appears to be a much more straightforward action story compared to WandaVision‘s slow-burn mystery. But fans won’t have to wait much longer for the show and its secrets to start getting revealed.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere on Disney Plus on March 19, 2021.
