Plenty of conventional weaponry can be found in the Fallout universe. Firearms like pistols, shotguns and assault rifles are pretty easy to come by throughout the wasteland. Failure to protect oneself will inevitably lead to a swift death. But why should a player be content with just any old weapon? Why shoot a raider when a bowling ball can be launched at his head instead?
From alien blasters to Lovecraftian clubs, there’s a lot of strange weaponry in the world of Fallout. It’s said that “variety is the spice of life,” and the Fallout franchise has that in droves. Finding these implements of death isn’t always easy, but they are certainly worth the risk, even if it’s just for the laughs.
10 The Alien Blaster
Does using weapons from planet Earth ever get boring? If so, then players are in luck. Utilizing alien technology is a reality in the Fallout universe. It has appeared several times throughout the course of the franchise, effectively becoming a series staple.
A one-of-a-kind Alien Blaster can be found in Fallout 4 with a little exploration. North of Vault 81 is a UFO crash site. Following the green liquid will lead to a nearby cave, inside of which is the corpse of an alien. The strange artifact can be looted from his body.
9 The Broadsider
Sometimes a 9mm pistol just doesn’t get the job done. One way to overcompensate in Fallout 4 is to find the Broadsider. This weapon is a cannon. Literally. It’s a heavy piece of 18th-century naval ordinance that will surely terrify anyone who crosses its path.
The Sole Survivor can acquire the Broadsider in the quest “The Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution.” It’s given as a reward for helping Ironsides instead of the scavengers. Blowing enemies away with cannonballs is a pretty satisfying experience to say the least.
8 K9000 Cyberdog
The K9000 Cyberdog answers a burning question: What if dogs were also machine guns? The K9000 is an amalgamation of the two. In addition to firing conventional bullets, the gun also utilizes a “sniffer.” Like a real dog, it can detect nearby enemies using its nose. The firearm itself will bark and growl under certain circumstances as well.
This wildly strange weapon can be found in the Old World Blues DLC for Fallout: New Vegas. It can be found within the Big MT Research Facility by passing a Guns skill check of 50. Alternatively, another one can be found at the X-12 research center, where it’s being wielded by Mr. Harris.
7 Junk Jet
The world of Fallout is positively littered with junk. No doubt many players probably carry a significant amount of it with them for crafting purposes or resale. Why not put those extra teddy bears and spare wrenches to good use? The Junk Jet, as its name implies, can weaponize almost any type of junk item.
The Junk Jet can be acquired in Fallout 4 in the ArcJet Systems building. A similar weapon, called the Rock-It Launcher, can also be found in Fallout 3. The ability to run roughshod over one’s enemies while using stuffed animals as ammunition is a sight that needs to be witnessed firsthand.
6 Kremvh’s Tooth
Almost anything can be used as a melee weapon, but Kremvh’s Tooth is special. This wicked-looking blade is no ordinary machete. It actually possesses a rather unique mod called “Sacrificial Blade,” which increases its damage output by adding poison and bleeding effects.
Kremvh’s Tooth can be found deep within Dunwich Borers at the bottom of an underwater tunnel. The weapon’s aesthetic, in addition to where it can be found, are nods to H.P. Lovecraft. “The Dunwich Horror” is one of his novelettes while the blade itself looks like something straight out of the Cthulhu Mythos.
5 Cryolator
It’s one thing to be shot, but quite another to be frozen solid. The weapon’s name, the Cryolator, is something that would befit a supervillain. It sprays a cryogenic solution that most normal enemies won’t’ be able to withstand for very long. The device operates similarly to a flamer but utilizes cold instead of heat.
The Cryolator has appeared in multiple games, most recently in Fallout 76. It can be found as loot on a variety of enemies. In Fallout 4, the weapon is stored inside a display case in the Overseer’s office of Vault 111. A Master-level lock keeps it safe, so the player needs to work for it!
4 The Man Opener
There’s not a whole lot of ambiguity in the name of this weapon. It consists of a ghastly circular saw that can rip through flesh and armor like it’s nothing. There isn’t exactly a lot of technical know-how regarding the weapon’s operation. Just switch it on and watch it go to work.
The Lone Wanderer can wield the Man Opener in Fallout 3. More specifically, it’s found atop a bed in a supply depot when players visit The Pitt. It can be quite a useful tool for melee-focused players considering it ignores an enemy’s Damage Resistance value.
3 The Striker
Many fans of the series are most likely familiar with the Fat Man. It’s a portable catapult capable of launching miniaturized nuclear warheads. The same idea lay at the heart of the Striker, albeit with one key difference. Instead of firing nukes, its primary function is to fire bowling balls, hence its name.
Now, some people may question the practical use of such a weapon. But getting hit with a bowling ball launched from high speed isn’t a pleasant experience. A blow to the head can definitely be deadly. Funnily enough, when enemies get hit with a bowling ball, an audio cue playing the “strike” sound from a bowling alley can sometimes be heard.
2 Grognak’s Axe
Grognak the Barbarian is a fictional comic series within the Fallout universe. Visiting Hubris Comics in Fallout 4 gives the player an opportunity to wield the legendary hero’s axe. Although lacking the mystical properties contained in the comic books, the weapon itself is real enough.
The axe can be acquired by unlocking a display case behind the front desk. Grognak’s Axe makes a return in Fallout 76, where it can be crafted by using the associated plan. It can also be dropped as a gift during the Holiday Scorched event, which takes place during the holiday season.
1 Guitar Sword
Turning a guitar into a dangerous weapon requires creativity. The Guitar Sword in Fallout 76 turns a beloved musical instrument into a deadly implement. Like a regular sword, it contains a hilt as well as multiple sharpened blades at the end. Contrary to how it may look, it can’t actually be used to play real music.
The Guitar Sword can be found in various locations. It can be received as a possible reward for completing the “Signal Strength” quest. A few of them can also be located scattered around various corpses at the Top of the World.
