With the latest collection event, Chaos Theory, Apex Legends has received a massive content update that includes lots of new event cosmetics, including Bangalore’s Cold Steel heirloom. A new Limited-Time Mode called Ring Fury, which introduced ring flares to the arena, has escalated with a new set of rules.
Because Ring Fury is what Apex Legends developers Respawn Entertainment is calling an “escalating takeover,” the mode will have its rules changes every few days to keep Legends on their toes when fighting through Kings Canyon. Ring Fury is a simple mode that messes around with ring flares, but as the mode evolves, things should get a lot more chaotic, and players will almost certainly need to use the new Heat Shield item to survive in the endgame.
With Ring Fury now on Level Two, the rules have changed with all but one ring flare being cut out. Level Two sees just one massive ring flare appear in each round of an Apex Legends match, making this version noticeably harder than the original mode. Exactly like the smaller ring flares in Level One, this giant ring flare expands and shrinks as rounds progress, deals the same damage to players as the current ring, and is always visible on the map as a giant red circle. The extra twist is that this gigantic ring flare is always in the center of the safe area.
Players will notice that, at the beginning of every Ring Fury Level Two match, the middle river section, and surrounding points of interest, such as Bunker and The Cage, are partially or entirely engulfed by the giant ring flare. As the first ring comes in, this gigantic flare can pose serious issues, as it blocks off some key travel routes between major areas, especially the new northern points of interest in Kings Canyon. Players will have to be ready to run all the way around the flare or risk running through it, using Heat Shields to stay alive.
As the rounds progress and the safe area shrinks, so does the maximum size of the giant ring flare. However, it is almost always a massive inconvenience that players will have to navigate around to survive to the late stages of a match. Positioning is key and given that the flare always takes up the center of the safe area, players should always position themselves somewhat near the edge of the ring to avoid the heat of the expanding ring flare.
The Recon Legends – Bloodhound, Crypto, and Pathfinder – are all great Legend choices for this LTM, as their ability to locate the next ring will help teams in guessing which areas will be safe from the next ring flare. To remain adaptable in terms of positioning, a mobility Legend, such as Octane or Horizon, will also help teammates get to safe and advantageous positions before any other team.
Respawn recently confirmed that Ring Fury Level Two will be sticking around until Monday, March 15. Presumably, players will be thrown into Level Three afterwards which will likely bring about even more ring-based carnage. With the recent launch on the Nintendo Switch, Ring Fury and all its ring flare chaos can also be enjoyed in handheld form.
Apex Legends is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
