Bandai Namco Confirms Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 Won’t Cross into DB Super Content

After a concerning lack of updates, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will finally get its third DLC pack later this year. As fans questioned the extended silence on Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s DLC plans, publisher Bandai Namco confirmed that DLC 3 will focus on a fan favorite story arc. Yet, some fans may be disappointed that it will only be a small part of the central character’s narrative.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s next DLC will be Trunks: The Warrior of Hope, a retelling of the tragic tale of Future Trunks. Many fans welcomed the news that one of the more somber tales in the Dragon Ball universe would be realized within Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s RPG based gameplay. While the announcement trailer confirmed that players would relive the “origin” story of Future Trunks, there were those that questioned if it would go further. Unfortunately for those hoping the story would progress beyond “Z,” a new tweet has dashed those dreams.

The official Bandai Namco DE Twitter account confirmed that Trunks: The Warrior of Hope would only focus on the original Future Trunks storyline. As Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot players have requested the move into Dragon Ball Super content, Trunks: The Warrior of Hope DLC will not feature the transition. The tweet, which was in response to another Twitter user, was blunt in confirming that there will be no link to Dragon Ball Super stories. The tweet, as translated through Google, states that DLC Pack 3 will only focus on Dragon Ball Z content.

Dragon Ball fans are more than familiar with the Z story of Future Trunks, the character central to the franchise’s revered “Cell” arc. While most fans know Future Trunk’s original tale, the story did not end there. The son of the Saiyan prince Vegeta would find more struggles ahead as the future is placed in peril again. Dragon Ball Super saw the return of Future Trunks within the plainly named “Future Trunks Saga.” Set as the third major story arc of the most recent iteration of Dragon Ball, it saw Future Trunks deal with Kais, Gods, and a frightening foe in Goku Black. It was because of all this that some fans hoped the story of Future Trunks would move into the Dragon Ball Super story arc. With Bandai Namco’s recent tweet however, it seems that the “Z” in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot limits how far the story can go.

With the confirmation from an official Bandai Namco source, it appears fans will have to keep waiting until a possible “Dragon Ball Super: Kakarot” releases in the future. While Kakarot won’t be the transition point, it does not mean that Bandai Namco is only focused on Dragon Ball Z alone. The publisher of all Dragon Ball video games continues to bring content from all eras of Akira Toriyama’s manga to gamers. Just recently, it was confirmed that Dragon Ball GT‘s Super Saiyan 4 Gotega will be added to Dragon Ball FighterZ. So as many await the move to Super, they may have to go through Dragon Ball GT first.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
