Breath Of The Wild: Everything You Can Make With Hot-Footed Frog (& Where To Find It)

Despite being a seemingly innocuous creature found in Hyrule, the Hot-Footed Frog does make an appearance in one of Link’s memories as Princess Zelda eagerly shows him the rare find. While they can be hard to capture in Breath of the Wild, they can also be very useful and are worth trying to catch whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Since Hot-Footed Frogs aren’t a food item, trying to cook them into any regular recipe will create Dubious Food, which is simply a waste of resources and has no real value outside of letting the player know when a particular combination of items won’t create anything of use. On the other hand, Hot-Footed Frogs can create some useful Elixirs and are needed to upgrade several armor pieces, making them a commodity that players shouldn’t waste.

Like their real-world counterparts, frogs are generally found around water and wet areas. Many can be found around Hateno Village, specifically, in the upper regions of town near the road to Purrah’s laboratory. They can also be found in abundance around Lanayru Great Spring near Zora Domain, as well as all around the road on the way up to Zora Domain, or Hyrule Ridge near the Ridgeland Tower.  The most abundant place to find Hot-Footed Frogs, however, is the Irch Plain, northwest of Hyrule Castle and just over the Hyrule Castle. Both Hot-Footed Frogs and Fleetfoot Lotus can be found here, though there are also several Bokoblins on horseback wielding Fire Arrows, so it is worth taking extra precautions if the player is planning to farm for them here.

If the player tries to cook up Hot-Footed Frogs with anything other than monster parts, it will result in Dubious Food being created. Even if the player cooks up multiple Hot-Footed Frogs in the same recipe, the result will be the same.

When combined with monster parts, the usefulness of Hot-Footed Frogs becomes readily apparent, as it creates a Hasty Elixir that increases Link’s movement speed by quite a large amount when consumed. In order to create a higher level Elixir, the player simply has to cook up multiple Hot-Footed Frogs alongside at least one monster part or Monster Extract.

Being able to swim, climb, and run faster may seem like a fairly weak effect all things considered, but it’s an effect that is a lot more useful than it appears at first glance. Aside from being able to swim and climb further while using the same amount of stamina, it also allows Link to more easily catch up to quick enemies, such as Lizalfos, which like to jump around and can be hard to hit with melee weapons. Hasty Elixirs are also very useful for catching animals and insects, particularly faster ones like the Hightail Lizard and Hot-Footed Frog, without the need for stealth increasing gear or effects.

The second use for Hot-Footed Frogs comes with upgrading Link’s armor sets at one of the four Fairy Fountains found in Hyrule. In particular, they are needed to upgrade the Climbing set to its third level. Each of the three pieces needs 10 Hot-Footed Frogs in total, as well as 5 Ice Keese Wings, in order for them to reach the third upgrade level. Before they can reach this point, the player will need to upgrade the Climbing set twice before, using Keese Wings, Electric Keese Wings, Rushrooms, and Hightail Lizards, with the final upgrade also requires Swift Violet and Fire Keese Wings.
