While not much may have changed this week in terms of story content for Destiny 2 and Season of the Chosen, Bungie outlined plans for a few near term changes coming to the game in its weekly blog post. After Trials of Osiris was removed multiple times in the past few weekends, the high end PvP mode finally makes its return today complete with fixes for the recent issues plaguing it. Details on what changed are a bit limited, though this is likely due to to Bungie not wanting to bring too much attention to the exploit.
Bungie also revealed the winner from its Dinosaur versus Monsters debate posed in a previous TWAB post. For the Halloween inspired Festival of the Lost, Bungie showed off concept art for special Monsters and Dinosaur inspired armor and left it up to the community to decide which set would be made available. With all the votes counted, the Dinosaur gear dominated pulling in 81% of the fan vote. Even though Dinosaurs took the victory, Bungie is still interested in the Monster set and indicated they could be added at some point as ornaments.
Before Daylight Savings appears later this weekend for US players, Xur has returned to Destiny 2 at his usual reset time. Follow this guide for his location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of what he’s currently selling for the weekend of March 12, 2021.
For the next few days, players can find Xur hanging out in the Tower Hanger.
After loading into The Tower, head left and follow the path into the hangar. Stay on the ground level, run left past Jalaal’s Dead Orbit area, and find a set of starts towards the back where Xur can be found overlooking the mountains from a platform.
While Xur’s role is essentially the same as it was prior to the Beyond Light expansion, the exotic merchant also has weekly quests that players can acquire to unlock an exotic cypher. Not only are these required to purchase a second fated engram, but they’re necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the new kiosk. Players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.
Other than that, here are Xur’s three gear pieces this weekend:
Winter’s Guile – Warlock gauntlets
While this item isn’t subclass specific, it pairs pretty well with Voidwalkers who run Attunement of Hunger. The exotic perk is known as Warlord’s Sigil which increases the player’s melee damage each time an enemy is eliminated by a melee strike. It’s not the most interesting of exotics out there, but it can have its moments of being fairly powerful in PvE and at times in Crucible.
The nice thing about this particular piece of gear is that it comes with Impact Induction, which feeds right back into Warlord’s Sigil. What’s unfortunate is that the roll this week has fantastic intelligence but extremely low strength which isn’t good for an exotic focused on melee attacks. However, with the Monte Carlo auto rifle, it may pair pretty well this week.
Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +11
- Resilience +10
- Recovery +10
- Discipline +6
- Intellect +25
- Strength +2
Knucklehead Radar – Hunter helmet
Hunters gets the Knucklehead Radar helmet this week, which really lends itself to PvP modes in the Crucible. Upgraded Sensor Pack is the intrinsic perk which enhances the player’s radar when crouched and keeps it on the screen when aiming down the sights.
Useful is the best term to describe this exotic as it’s not the best option out there for Hunters, but it can be valuable in the right situations. Knowing where enemies are coming from even when aiming down the sights really comes in handy in competitive PvP modes which makes this helm is worth the asking price for those that don’t already own it. Plus, the roll this week is pretty good which helps a lot as well.
Void Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +9
- Resilience +3
- Recovery +21
- Discipline +8
- Intellect +9
- Strength +14
Synthoceps – Titan gauntlets
After a good long while, the Synthoceps are back in stock at Xur. Biotic Enhancements, the item’s intrinsic perk, not only buffs the melee range, but when the player is surrounded by enemies, it also buffs damage. Similar to the Hunter’s exotic gauntlets Liar’s Handshake, this item can make Titan players very powerful.
Not much has changed about them recently. While these are a popular Titan exotic, buying this specific item is entirely up to the user and whether or not the stats on this is better than what they may already have. Thankfully, the stat rolls are pretty good on this item so it may be worth spending the shards on to get a better version of the exotic.
Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +14
- Resilience +15
- Recovery +3
- Discipline +15
- Intellect +2
- Strength +11
A few weeks later, the popular Destiny 1 exotic assault rifle Monte Carlo is back in stock. The Monte Carlo Method is its intrinsic perk which reduces the player’s melee cooldown when dealing damage with the gun. In addition, it gives a chance to fully charge the player’s melee ability following each kill. Markov Chain pairs with this ability which gives the gun increased damage following melee kills and kills with the weapon. Melee kills also generate weapon ammo.
Auto Rifles are always a solid choice in Destiny 2 and Monte Carlo is more than a viable option for many players especially considering its ability to help regenerate melee abilities. For those who don’t yet have this weapon, it’s worth picking up this week.
Additional perks:
- Fluted Barrel
