Persona 5 Royal is an excellent update to the original game, providing a bunch of quality-of-life changes, enhanced systems, and a whole new semester that includes a riveting protagonist and some of the most epic moments in the game. It goes without saying that any person who decides to try out Persona 5 Royal will be more than happy with the overall experience — one that lasts for hundreds of hours, if not more!
Persona 5 Royal also adds a new character to the mix — Kasumi Yoshizawa. This character ends up being quite riveting in her own right, and any player who’s finished Persona 5 will find her inclusion in the story all the more enjoyable as a result.
Here are ten of the most notable quotes from this character that illustrates just how brilliant she really is.
Disclaimer: Major spoilers will be included for Persona 5 Royal.
10 “I Think That Helping People…”
Full quote: “I Think That Helping People Is A Wonderful Thing To Be Able To Do. But, I Can’t Really Say That I Like Them.”
During a conversation between the protagonist, Akechi, and Kasumi, the topic diverts to the Phantom Thieves and their unique method of dispensing justice.
Kasumi wholeheartedly disagrees with the notion of forcing people to change their hearts, stating instead that this change should come from within instead of being governed by an external influence.
9 “Dance, Persona!”
Using Kasumi in combat can be quite a blast, featuring powerful Bless and Physical skills that can prove to be quite damaging.
What truly makes using her character so satisfying is the fact that Kasumi ends up throwing her own quirky lines into the mix whenever she summons her Persona. This is a neat little touch that makes her character all the more interesting.
8 “We Nailed It, Senpai! — Don’t Forget The Pose!”
The Showtime attacks in Persona 5 Royal are neat little additions to the game, introducing a new and interesting dynamic in battle. However, for the longest time, Joker ends up being the only character without any Showtime partner, that is, until both Kasumi and Akechi show up.
Joker’s attack with Kasumi is an elegant display that showcases her gymnastic talents while inflicting a ton of damage on the enemy. The fact that Kasumi ends up being a perfectionist all the way to the end and reminds Joker to pose is quite a nice touch.
7 “Stuck The Landing!”
Another instance of when Kasumi brings her gymnastic expertise into combat is after landing an All-Out Attack. She performs a fancy gymnastic move by the end of it before transitioning to another beautiful 2D shot.
The fact that Kasumi gets ecstatic about nailing the landing is a testament to the fact that she certainly is quite dedicated to gymnastics.
6 “Ka…sumi? No… That’s Not Right! I’m… I’m Not Kasumi!
Kasumi hides a massive plot twist that is revealed when players venture into Maruki’s Palace and find out the secret to her identity.
Kasumi Yoshizawa lost her life a long time ago, and the person that had been using her name all this time proves to be none other than her younger sister, Sumire! It is a well-written twist that adds a lot of depth to the character.
5 “I Was Saved By Kasumi…”
Full quote: “I Was Saved By Kasumi… I Robbed Her Of Her Dreams… And Even Her Life!”
After Sumire starts feeling inferior to Kasumi’s gymnastic skills, she has a breakdown in the middle of the street and starts running helter-skelter. Thankfully, Kasumi manages to push her sister out of the way; unfortunately, she winds up sacrificing her life to do so.
It’s a jarring revelation, and the manner in which Sumire’s guilt comes pouring out after this fact is revealed is quite saddening. This guilt must’ve been tearing her apart all this time, and it’s understandable as to why Maruki decided to alter her cognition so that she wouldn’t be absorbed by this guilt for the rest of her life.
4 “I Can’t Stop This… I Refuse To Live As Kasumi’s Killer!”
Regardless of the reasons why Sumire decided to take over Kasumi’s personality, the fact of the matter is that running away from one’s problems and feigning ignorance is not a viable solution in the slightest.
This is perhaps why she tries to fight the Phantom Thieves in a bid to fall back under Maruki’s spell. However, this was obviously unhealthy for her, and the group decides to fight her in an emotional battle, where her guilt is clear for everyone to see.
3 “Why Are You Doing This To Me?”
Full quote: “Why Are You Doing This To Me? Please… Just Leave Me Alone!”
The fight with Sumire might not be all that challenging, but the emotions that are vested in this duel make it quite entertaining regardless.
The manner in which Sumire implores the Phantom Thieves to leave her alone after her health is halved might seem heartbreaking, but it’s clear to everyone that she can’t run away from her problems time and time again.
2 “I Can’t Take It… It Feels Like I’m Melting…”
Most people would definitely agree with the fact that Sumire is one of the best romance options in Persona 5 Royal. In fact, she has the most scenes with the protagonist — along with a Showtime attack as well!
There’s no denying the fact that Joker finally confessing his love to Sumire in the game ends up eliciting the most adorable reaction of all the possible romance options. Watching Sumire get all hot and flustered is extremely entertaining and makes for one of the highlights of the game.
1 “I Am Myself! I’ll Never Forget That Again!”
After finally facing off against Maruki once and for all, the counselor makes one last-ditch attempt to convince everyone in the Phantom Thieves to support him in his goal. However, each of them has a fitting rebuttal to counter Maruki’s half-baked claims.
Kasumi’s retort is particularly refreshing to hear, revealing that she would never lose her way ever again. She remembers her true identity instead of deigning to take responsibility for whatever happened in the past.
