Loop Hero is a game about wandering a loop, fighting monsters, and trying to stay alive. Players can upgrade their camp using all manner of resources that they will find while out on the loop. There are plenty of deep, strategic decisions to make, and one of the most important choices a player will face is when to fight the boss of each chapter.
The first thing players should know about boss fights in Loop Hero is that they are in charge of when they happen. As players place tiles on the loop, the boss meter will fill up, and only when it is full will the boss appear on the camp tile. The next time players arrive at the camp tile, they will need to decide between fighting the boss or returning to camp.
If players die, they will lose 70% of the resources they collected, while making it back to the camp in one piece allows them to leave with all their items. Players can take on the boss and then leave if they win, without needing to complete another loop, and they will also benefit from resources dropped by the boss.
It is a good idea for players to plan to do farming runs or boss fight runs. Farming runs will involve placing valuable tile combinations that generate lots of enemies to farm as many resources as possible. They can then stop placing cards when they get close to filling the boss meter, running as many loops as possible before leaving.
For boss runs, placing tougher enemies that can drop better items with good combat buffs, or taking advantage of quests to get higher-level items, is a great tactic to prepare for the boss. Players should also ensure they get some good items and a solid build for their class before they summon them. It is also important to fill the tiles around the campfire so that bosses cannot build structures that make them more powerful.
Knowing when to summon and fight a boss will only really happen with experience, but a golden rule is to have as much health and healing potions as possible before starting. If players only have half their health when they reach the boss, then victory is unlikely. Finally, players should always prioritize leaving with a rare resource over fighting the boss. If they are lucky enough to get an Astral Orb, it is almost certainly better to leave and secure the item than to risk losing it by dying to the boss.
Loop Hero is available now on PC, Mac, and Linux.
