Skyrim: Where to Find Arvak’s Skull | Game Rant

As part of the Skyrim Special Edition, players will automatically have access to all three of the game’s major DLC packs. This means that the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn DLC packs are all included with purchase of the base game. While traversing through Dawnguard’s vampiric storyline, it won’t be long before players find themselves trapped in the Soul Cairn. Unlike all the other unlucky souls here, the Dragonborn will eventually be able to claw their way out, but not before doing a few good, old-fashioned quests first. One of these quests tasks the player with finding and retrieving Arvak’s skull, but this can be a bit tricky.

Arvak is the skeletal horse that players have probably seen running around during their time in Skyrim‘s soul Cairn. His previous owner explains the situation to the Dragonborn once they enter the Soul Cairn and asks them to get him back. Unfortunately, this isn’t as simple as catching the swift steed, as players will instead need to find his skull.

The first step to finding Arvak’s skull is to follow the main quest marker until coming across a large castle-like fortress. The Soul Cairn is vast, and a lot of it looks the same, so it is very easy to get lost in here. As such, it’s important to keep one’s wits about them and use the quest markers that are available to help get oriented should the player get turned around. Once at this castle, turn to the right and run along the outside of the large fortress.

After cresting the hill over here, players should notice some bright lights glowing off in the distance. Head towards the closest of these to find a well exuding soul energy. From here, another light can be seen. Head towards the second light and players will eventually come across a building with several enemies around it. In the center of this building is Arvak’s skull, but players will need to defeat the Mistman enemies here in order to retrieve it. Thankfully, these enemies are relatively weak compared to Dawnguard’s toughest new foes, so taking them out shouldn’t be a problem for most.

After obtaining Arvak’s skull, players can mark the quest and follow the marker back to his previous owner. Give the skull to this soul and he will teach the Dragonborn the Summon Arvak spell, allowing them to call Arvak forth as a steed whenever they please. This can even be done outside of the Soul Cairn, meaning players have an awesome new mount to flaunt as they ride around without using Skyrim‘s Creation Club mods.

Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
