Xbox Gaming Event Now Expected for Different Day in March

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many gaming events have either been put on hold, moved to virtual, or canceled altogether. However, this hasn’t stopped some companies from hosting gaming events to promote games in one way or another, like the Nintendo Direct showcases.

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft expert Paul Thurrott tweeted that Microsoft is reportedly planning a series of future events that center on Xbox and Windows for 2021. According to Thurrott’s tweet, one of these events will be a “What’s New for Gaming” event for March 23 that will be followed up by a “What’s New for Windows” event with no date yet. However, the website Windows Central thinks that the date for the Xbox gaming event could have changed.

According to the website’s sources, the rumored Xbox gaming event might have changed dates from Tuesday, March 23 to Friday, March 26. It doesn’t shed any light on the possible date change and points out that details about the event are already scarce as it is. However, the website is confident that Microsoft is looking to capitalize on its momentum from its recent purchase of Bethesda and will build on it.

The site also shared speculation as to what the Xbox event itself could be about. It proposed that the Xbox gaming event could be a more tech and platform-oriented event that also features some of the smaller game releases the company has. Microsoft does have various other game projects, and some the site speculated could show up include The Ascent, 12 Minutes, and Scorn among others.

However, the website doesn’t fully expect the gaming event to show off many major Xbox game releases like Forza Motorsport 8, Hellblade 2, or even the new Fable. As such, it advises readers to temper their expectations for whenever the event is announced. It speculates that Microsoft might be saving some of the bigger game releases for E3’s new online event in June. The site mentions that Microsoft has been generally supportive of E3 and might very well save some of its bigger releases for the upcoming online event.

It also brings up an interview Xbox’s Jason Roland had on the Iron Lords podcast, where he revealed that there are still unannounced games planned to release in 2021, some of which could be promoted at the Xbox gaming event. However, the website points out that Roland didn’t outright state if the games would be Xbox exclusives. At the time of writing, Microsoft has not confirmed if it will be having an Xbox gaming event or any event in March yet.
