Despite launching in 2019 and no longer being the active Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is still extremely popular. Despite Activision trying its best to push fans toward Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone, some players are not quite ready to move on from Infinity Ward’s latest game. As such, the latest Modern Warfare is in a weird place, as is its long-rumored seventh season of content.
While there is plenty of evidence for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7’s existence, including all the content that the update would feature, there is just as much disproving the theory. While some leakers believe Season 7 is still coming, many fans have their doubts, as each passing day makes this big drop of content seem less and less likely. When it comes to Season 7 being a reality, only time will tell, though there are a few prominent theories about why exactly Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s next update has not arrived.
Before getting into where exactly Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s next Season is, it is important to look at what exactly the new content would entail. After all, part of what has led to all the intrigue regarding Season 7 is the fact that so much content has been leaked for it. First, four maps have leaked. The first is a fully original map called Al Raab Airbase, which seems to take place in an area from one of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign missions. Next, a remaster of the Call of Duty 4 map Killhouse has leaked, with the location also reappearing in Call of Duty Mobile. Placing players in a large hanger, the map is not too dissimilar from the Gunfight map King in terms of its visuals.
Speaking of Gunfight, the maps Drainage and Townhouse have been seen in the game’s code, though both of these 2v2 locations have not been added to the game thus far. As such, fans have assumed that this will lead to their inclusion in an eventual Season 7. Next up, the CX-9 SMG, RAAL, and Sykov Pistol have leaked, with these weapon additions being some of the most damning evidence of a new season. This is because Call of Duty: Warzone players were able to unlock the Season 7 weapons early through some glitched missions, confirming that Infinity Ward has the guns finished and ready to go.
Finally, Soap’s operator bundle has leaked, with the iconic character supposedly set to make his return during Season 7. Soap’s debut was teased in both the final cutscene of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign as well as the hidden Call of Duty: Warzone cutscene from Season 6. The contents of his bundle have been shown online, with Soap having a few different skins to unlock alongside a calling card and emblem. His bundle will contain a finishing move as well as some charms, with two gun blueprints and a melee blueprint available as well. The melee blueprint serves as a callback to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Cliffhanger mission, making the leaked bundle even more enticing. It will supposedly cost 2,400 COD Points.
If fans want to stay optimistic about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 actually happening, then the logical release date for the content will be after the nuke event in Verdansk. With Versansk tied so heavily to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it would make sense if its destruction impacted the game’s characters and ongoing story. Though the nuke event is not officially confirmed, there have been a steadily growing number of leaks, rumors, and teases about the bomb being dropped.
Call of Duty: Warzone’s nuke event will supposedly see Zombies spreading throughout Verdansk at a rapid rate, taking over most of the map’s locations as opposed to only the shipwreck. A game mode called Plague will then be added, which sees players calling in an exfil before a nuke destroys the map. While this event has been hyped up heavily because it will supposedly see Verdansk permanently removed, it is equally exciting for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans due to how it will possibly kickstart Season 7.
With the rumors about Zombies spreading proving true, as they have officially appeared in the Gulag, there is a reason to be optimistic about the nuke event really happening. If it does, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 could become a reality as well, with the new maps, weapons, and Soap all possibly coming to the game. According to leakers, the nuke event will supposedly happen on April 22, meaning that if another Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season is coming, fans will know about it around this date. For now, though, those interested will need to wait one more month.
If fans want to take a pessimistic approach, however, it is worth considering the possibility that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7 was scrapped. After all, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been advertised as having six seasons of content, and it would name sense if each Call of Duty game kept this format going forward. Further, the maps could simply be cut concepts, while the weapons do not necessarily need to be added through a proper Season. After all, the new guns could just be added to Call of Duty: Warzone as a bonus. Soap’s bundle could also come at any time, much like the recent addition of Roze’s unmasked skin.
At the same time, Infinity Ward may have fully intended to give Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players another Season of content before plans changed. If players go to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare application on their consoles or PC, they will find that the image has been reworked to show Call of Duty: Warzone — with only a tiny “MW” logo in the corner. Further, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War advertisements are prevalent within the game, with Activision trying its best to promote the newest release and push players to move on to the latest Call of Duty title. With 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot no longer considered the “active” Call of Duty game, supporting it further and dividing the player base makes little sense.
While fans may want to see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 7, nothing has been said officially about such an update. There are no teasers to be seen, with no proper acknowledgement coming from Infinity Ward either. While it would be nice to see a Call of Duty game’s life cycle extend beyond the one-year mark, it remains to be seen if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be that game. With evidence both for and against Season 7, it remains to be seen what will happen. On April 22, though, it seems like gamers will know one way or another.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
