Make Pi Day Even Tastier With These Video Game Pies | Game Rant

Portal may have been known for GLaDOS and her cake, but today is all about pie. March 14 is known as “Pi Day” because the date, 3.14, is the beginning sequence of the infinite mathematical symbol. Pi will always be the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, no matter how big or small that circle is. Pi Day is typically celebrated not with mathematical equations, but with actual pie. This makes sense because traditional pies are circular and will always amount to Pi as well as delicious pie. The holiday has become a bit more commercial over the years, with other businesses, like pizza places, offering Pi Day specials and savings.

While Pi is a universal absolute, edible pies are not. People’s definition of a pie and what does (or doesn’t) belong in it will vary based on region. The U.K. is known for offering savory pies, while the U.S. is often known for sweet pies. Sometimes something that doesn’t even look like a pie is considered one. Despite these discrepancies, it’s hard to deny how mouthwateringly delicious these video game pies look, even if they don’t fit the “traditional” sense of what a pie is.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has long been lauded for its impressive graphics and gameplay. Those who have played the game or even seen the food in-game can attest to its scrumptious aesthetic. Some fans have even recreated the recipes and made an unofficial cookbook. Breath of the Wild has two standout pies with each one catering to a unique palette.

The apple pie is typically associated with the United States, especially thanks to the phrase “as American as apple pie.” That being said, as long as people are fans of apples and sweet pies, this pie is sure to be a success. To craft apple pie in BoTW, players need to combine cane sugar, goat butter, Tabantha wheat, and an apple on top of a fire. These ingredients pretty much mimic a real apple pie recipe, which can make real-life recreation that much easier.

On the opposite end of the flavor spectrum exists the Fish Pie, also found in BoTW. For players to make this savory pie, they need to combine Tabantha wheat, goat butter, rock salt, and any kind of seafood. This recipe would be a bit harder to make in real life because not just any seafood is suitable as a fish pie filling. Regardless, the aesthetic appeal of BoTW’s fish pie is unmatched and has led to many fan recreations.

Fallout 4 is full of consumable items to help or hinder the Sole Survivor in-game. The Perfectly Preserved Pie is a delicious looking piece of pie that has survived 200 years without sustaining any radiation damage. In Fallout 4, this pie is probably full of added preservatives that kept it so well-preserved for so long.

There is a formula that works out just how often players have to try to get the piece of pie from a Port-a-Diner, but even with Luck 10 there’s only a 2% chance of getting it on the first try. If players really want the perfectly preserved pie, they can visit the machine in the Nuka-World junkyard. It always gives pie on the first try.

Most of the time, Pi and pie are not synonymous with each other. However, today is the one day that pie and Pi combine to result in a tasty treat for everyone involved. Whether it’s savory or sweet, there’s sure to be a video game pie that satisfies and helps celebrate National Pi Day.
