Alien: Hope for the Future Fan Game Gameplay Footage Released

Alien is one of the most influential sci-fi franchises in popular culture thanks in large part to Ridley Scott’s movie of the same name, which featured iconic creature design by legendry Swiss artist H. R. Giger. Apart from sequels and prequels, the film spawned several novels, toys, and video games like SEGA’s survival-horror shooter Alien Isolation.

Now, after a long break, the next promising title in the Alien universe is coming in the form of a fan-made project titled Alien: Hope for the Future. As per its Patreon page, the game’s development is handled by a single person, Alexey Melentev. While the development is progressing slowly, the creator has posted new gameplay footage that sheds light on the game’s aesthetics and mechanics.

Going by the video that runs for about two hours, the game focuses on the elements of survival-horror. Fans of Alien Isolation will be quick to draw comparisons. For an immersive experience, the developer has opted for the FPS perspective. The game is set in a human colony Hadley’s Hope on LV-426, which was first introduced in James Cameron’s action-packed film Aliens.

According to Alexey Melentev, the main campaign will revolve around a few colonists. In most missions, players will assume the role of Engineer Colin Rod. But, there will also be instances where fans will get to play as other characters. The game creator has resisted the idea of featuring a popular character from previous movies or games to avoid a future lawsuit. Thankfully for Alexey, neither 20th Century Studios nor SEGA has served a notice to take this project down though things could change with the upcoming launch of the third-person co-op shooter Aliens: Fireteam in a few months.

For the worst-case scenario, Alexey is prepared to tackle such a situation by altering the Xenomorph design and removing references to the Alien universe. The game will be exclusive to the PC and will be distributed for free through its non-commercial nature. It lacks an official launch date, but the developer is optimistic about releasing a demo by November.
