Call of Duty: Warzone Potentially Adding 250 Player Map

Several Call of Duty: Warzone leakers have suggested that a new map for the popular battle royale is finally on the way. Some of this information has been floating around since January, but recent reports hint at expanded player counts and a bigger map than Call of Duty players have ever seen.

Call of Duty: Warzone hit the free-to-play battle royale scene in March of 2020 and made a big splash; over 30 million players jumped in during the first two weeks alone. Critics praised the excellent graphics and massive map brought on by Modern Warfare, from which Warzone barrowed its engine and design. Technical innovations such as cross-play and high player counts were bolstered by mostly positive changes to the familiar battle royale formula like contracts and the Gulag.

One aspect that has not changed since release, however, is the map where it all goes down. Yes, Warzone introduced a smaller map in Rebirth Island, but the principal modes were always fought in the massive Verdansk map. While huge and visually appealing, Warzone players have been ready for a new area to drop in for quite some time now. Most battle royale games have featured new maps to shake up the formula, but in this aspect Warzone has lagged behind the rest.

This might not be the case for much longer; while the much rumored Nuke event has not happened, new leaks have suggested that another gargantuan Warzone map is on the way and currently in testing. User @InfoCoDEsp_2 tweeted a few notes regarding this new map, claiming that it is the size of 23 Fireteam: Dirty Bomb maps. The tweet also suggests that more vehicles will be coming to the battle royale, most of which have not yet appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Finally, the tweet claims that there is talk of expanding the number of players to 250.

This would be an additional 100 players on top of the already-huge 150 player count that Warzone enjoys. The prospect of additional players is tantalizing, though some players worry that this could push the servers to their breaking point. Warzone has been rife with cheaters, glitches, and bugs since release, so players are justifiably concerned at the idea of pushing the engine even further.

This battle royale game was originally introduced as a companion to the popular reboot of Modern Warfare, but Warzone has changed a lot since its release a year ago. It has maintained a strong player base with new weapons, new operators, and many events that keep players coming back. What will happen next in Verdansk remains to be seen, but Warzone will likely keep going strong for some time to come.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4, and PS5.
