The wait for Marvel Studios’ next Disney Plus release is almost over, and with just a few days to go, the final trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been released. The action-packed trailer offers fans a brief look at the six-episode series’ story and some funny conversations between the main duo.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which has actors Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprising their Marvel Cinematic Universe’s roles of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, respectively, premieres on March 19. After the success of WandaVision, Marvel fans have high expectations for its successor and its latest trailer has only increased the buzz around the much-awaited series.
The trailer opens with a close-up shot of the iconic Captain America shield, which was passed on to Wilson in Avengers: Endgame. Mackie’s character has appeared alongside Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in the MCU since 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But, having to live up to his mentor’s legacy is not going to be easy on him, as is evident in the final trailer, with Wilson referring to the shield as belonging to “someone else.” With Wilson training to wield the shield and Barnes trying to figure out his place in the world, the unexpected duo could soon be going up against multiple evil forces.
Explosions, gunshots, and flying daggers cover most of the two-minute trailer, promising tons of Falcon and Winter Soldier action that Marvel fans are used to seeing. It also offers a closer look at the show’s potential villains, a group called Flag-Smashers. It seems like a female version of the villain Karl Morgenthau, who appears in the Marvel comics as the organizer of a campaign against nationalist symbols, will be the Falcon’s main nemesis. The role will be portrayed by actress Erin Kellyman.
The emphasis, however, is still on Captain America and how the world needs a symbol of hope and inspiration. With Steve Rogers retired from his Captain America role, whether or not Wilson be able to fill that void is what fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing. It won’t be an easy task for sure, but the trailer promises that it will be an exciting journey for Marvel fans nonetheless. The series will most likely provide a change of pace from the less action-focused WandaVision, which ended its season-long run last week.
It has been previously revealed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episodes will be between 40-55 minutes long, making them a little longer than previously expected. The show will also see Emily VanCamp return as Sharon Carter and Daniel Brühl as Zemo.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on Disney Plus on March 19, 2021.
