The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Xbox Ad Reveals Noobmaster69’s Identity

Hot off the heels of the ultra-popular WandaVisionThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service on Friday, March 19. Disney has been heavily promoting the show by releasing trailers and other promotional material, with this marketing barrage also including a crossover with Microsoft to promote the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The second Falcon and the Winter Soldier Game Pass ad features a surprising revelation for Marvel Cinematic Universe fanatics.

In the Avengers: Endgame movie, Thor has become depressed and overweight. Instead of fighting supervillains, Thor spends his days playing video games like Fortnite, where he is tormented by a user named Noobmaster69. This throwaway gag was referenced in the latest Falcon and the Winter Soldier Game Pass ad, where Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson (aka The Falcon) is talking to a game store employee about Game Pass, as he is trying to get back into gaming after returning from the “blip.”

The game store employee tries to sell Wilson on the Game Pass service by showcasing a variety of the games that subscribers have available to them, including heavy hitters like the Forza franchise and Halo. At the very end of the clip, the employee reveals that his Xbox Gamertag is Noobmaster69, though he claims his cousin is the one that made it.

Even some of the most hardcore MCU fans may not realize this, but the game store employee character has actually appeared in the MCU in the past. Portrayed by DC Pierson, the character used to work as tech support for Apple, as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While one could hardly say this Xbox Game Pass commercial is completely canon, it seems safe to say that Noobmaster69 is indeed the same DC Pierson character.

With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiering this Friday, March 19, it remains to be seen if there will be another one of these ads or not that continues the story. This ad does seem definitive, as it has Falcon actually playing Game Pass games interspersed with various clips from the TV series, and it’s hard to see how it could follow up the Noobmaster69 revelation.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the second step for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with it set to be followed by Black Widow in May and Loki in June. Barring anymore COVID-19 related delays, they will be followed up by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsEternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere March 19 on Disney+.
