Civilization 6 New Frontier Pass DLC 6 Confirms Zombies and More Details

In 2020, Civilization 6 started releasing new content with the New Frontier Pass so players could continue building their great empires. Since then, Civilization 6’s New Frontier Pass has released five new DLC packs with new content for players and is approaching its final installment.

Recently, a new developer update for Civilization 6 was released that shows players what’s in store for the sixth DLC pack in the New Frontier Pass. The developer video goes over the key details of the DLC as it introduces players to the Portugal Pack which, as one might imagine, adds Portugal to the game. On top of that, the DLC is adding Zombies to the game with new gameplay for players to enjoy on March 25.

Among the new content, Civilization 6 will be receiving the new Zombie Defense Mode as an optional game mode where players must defend against zombies attacking the world’s civilizations. The video discusses the game mode around 2:10. In Zombie Defense, slain enemies on the battlefield will rise from the dead as Zombie units that will attack the nearest non-Zombie units. Every unit the Zombies successfully attack and kill will be turned and respawn as Zombies.

Players will have access to new traps and barricade improvements to harm Zombies that pass or go near them and can be built on owned or neutral territory. The new game mode will also provide two new city projects that temporarily allow players to subjugate Zombie units within a city’s limits. This lets players take control of the Zombies and direct their attacks at their opponents. Players can either order Zombies to attack specific targets or simply move them out of their city and closer to someone else’s.

Zombie Defense will also provide a new spy operation where players can attempt to spawn Zombies on worked tiles in another player’s city. Along with the new Zombie game mode, Civilization 6 will be adding the Portugal Pack which adds Portugal to the game map. By adding Portugal, the developers were able to create gameplay systems that encourage and reward maritime exploration and trade in the game. The developers added that there will be Civilization 6 First Look video that goes into further discussion of Portugal’s game mechanics.

The developers explained that since there are not that many civilizations in the game that specialize in seafaring activity like this, it will offer players new and strategic opportunities. The game uses Portugal as the basis for the second world wonder, Torre De Belém, with the first originating from the previously released Babylon Pack. According to the video, Torre De Belém will provide players more gold and Great Admiral Points as a destination for international trade routes. It will also give players a free building on any city they own on another continent.

Civilization 6 is available now on Linux, Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
