Fortnite Adds Primal Weapon Crafting | Game Rant

Chapter 2 Season 6 of Fortnite has arrived at last. As with every season, Fortnite‘s island undergoes a series of locale changes and various geographic alterations. Season 6 is no different in that regard, although it is different in another – the introduction of a weapons crafting system.

Epic Games’ popular free-to-play battle royale officially launches its sixth season today. The finale to Fortnite‘s prior season was revealed in the epic Zero Point Crisis cinematic, which saw the likes of God of War‘s Kratos, Alien‘s Xenomorph and Ripley, and other various characters from the many franchise crossovers.

Season 6 of Fortnite is taking a unique and bold direction for its new content in the form of a new item crafting system. This season’s theme is Primal, where harvesting Animal Bones from the all-new flourishing fauna will become just as important as harvesting regular materials. These bones can be interacted with to immediately upgrade, or collected for later use. Players will discover that there are now essentially two weapon classes: Primal and Mechanical. While the mechanical (classic) weapons are said to be more precise, the new Primal weapons possess greater power. A new base class, dubbed a “Makeshift weapon,” can be upgraded to either of the aforementioned classes depending on what resources are used.

The weapons crafting system can be accessed via a new tab added to the inventory menu. Based off a screenshot on Fortnite‘s official site, players will be able to boost damage, fire rate, magazine size, and reload speed. However, the main weapon taking the spotlight this season is Bows, certainly fitting the “Primal” theme. Players will have the most customizability with the low-tech weapon, consisting of six different possibilities. Beyond crafting to Primal, players can find an elemental-based resource to further upgrade their Primal Bows. For example, players can find something fire-based to craft a Flame Bow, something that the new Lara Croft Tomb Raider skin will be familiar working with.

Epic Games appears to be making more radical changes to Fortnite‘s meta each season in order to keep its player base interested. Last season saw the introduction of NPCs around the map, in addition to buyable exotic weapons and a bounty system. This season sees an all-new weapons crafting system, along with the addition of predatory animals and the continuation of crossover skins. Epic very recently bought Fall Guys developer Mediatonic, so it should be interesting to see if some kind of “primal bean” skin make its way to the island during Season 6.

Fortnite‘s new Primal weapons are sure to make the battle royale even more dynamic. The revamped island along with the title’s various brand new elements should likely attract plenty of players old and new.

Fortnite is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
