For anyone who may have somehow missed the announcement, Fortnite Season 6 has officially begun. Beforehand, players will have to experience a unique single-player mission involving Jonesy and fleshing out the game’s lore (a first for the game), which will lead into Season 6 proper, which has been dubbed Primal. Naturally, the season has already brought a new Battle Pass, changes to the map, and a new crossover character.
The previous season was stuffed to the brim with numerous cameos from franchises like The Walking Dead, Street Fighter, and Alien, and it looks like Season 6 isn’t slowing down. One character that Epic Games appears to be pushing in particular, with them present in the new season’s key art standing alongside Jonesy, is none other than Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series.
With Fortnite Season 6 being themed around hunting wildlife and crafting weapons, Lara is a perfect inclusion considering she has plenty of experience doing those things from the more recent trilogy of Tomb Raider games, where hunting, scavenging, and crafting were major game mechanics. Her appearance is also slightly hilarious as some fans had previously theorized she would be a part of Season 5. This wound up not being the case, but it’s a remarkable coincidence nonetheless that fans predicted her appearance a whole season early.
As for how to unlock the Lara skin, it’s as simple as progressing through the season’s Battle Pass. The skin itself, while tailored to Fortnite‘s art style, directly resembles how she was depicted in the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. But, for those who prefer her design from the original games, there is a variant of that which can be unlocked, complete with turquoise top, short shorts, and twin pistols. There’s even an unlockable third variant that’s meant to look like her PlayStation 1 model, boasting a polygonal art style and less detail.
It’s unlikely that Lara will be the sole crossover character (in fact, a skin based on Brazilian soccer player Neymar is already confirmed), but Epic’s website has revealed some wholly original skins as well. Jonesy, in particular, has several new ones, such as one where his fancy suit is full of rips and tears, a martial arts gi that is likely inspired by Street Fighter‘s Ryu, and a military commando-like look that sees him also wearing beskar armor from The Mandalorian. As for future crossover cameos, it wouldn’t be surprising if die-hard fans figure out what they are early through datamining, like they’ve done in the past.
Fortnite is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
