Super Mario 3D World Trick Lets Players Steal Their Friends’ Clones

Of the many 3D Mario platformers to release in the last several years, Super Mario 3D World is considered to be one of the more underrated entries. Featuring a cacophony of inventive levels, new and enjoyable power-up items, as well as fun, competitive, multiplayer mechanics, Super Mario 3D World has a lot to offer if given the chance. Though, there is a mechanic that a lot of players will probably miss during their first playthrough.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was one of the first Mario games to feature local co-op, which has since been carried over into games like New Super Mario Bros. U. Although, with Super Mario 3D World, it added a new layer to gameplay, seeing as it was no longer about accumulating a combined high-score, but rather players were competing against each other for the high score. Hence, a lot of gameplay features were added to reflect this.

One of the new power-ups featured in Super Mario 3D World, outside of Cat Mario, are cherries which allow players to make clones of themselves. However, something that a lot of players probably don’t know is that if another player ground-pounds one of the clones, that player can steal the clone from the other player.

Sufficed to say, there are a lot of hidden details in Super Mario 3D World, but this is one that a lot of players may stumble upon by accident. Given the intuitive and simplistic nature of the controls as they relate to the game’s levels and power-ups, this is quite an impressive mechanic as it relates to the overall competitive nature.

Of the many Wii U titles to be ported to the Nintendo Switch, such as Pikmin 3 DeluxeDonkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Bayonetta 2Super Mario 3D World is one that offers a lot in terms of competitive multiplayer, especially for a 3D Mario platformer. It’s always nice when Switch ports add additional content to older games, as well.

Bowser’s Fury has turned quite a lot of heads and managed to impress many in the gaming community. The amount of unique content featured in Bowser’s Fury could serve as a prelude to an upcoming 3D Mario game, but as of right now it’s impossible to know what Nintendo has in store. At the very least, Mario fans can still enjoy Super Mario 3D World on Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
