Zack Snyder’s Justice League Will Debut With Making-Of Documentary

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is finally coming out after a long and arduous journey. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the Snyder-approved version of Justice League, following all the controversy and difficulties behind the scenes. Now, fans of the Snyder Cut will be able to get a closer look at the making of Justice League in the form of a behind-the-scenes documentary premiering the same day as the film.

Behind-the-scenes Cameraman/DP Simon Firsht posted the news on his Instagram, confirming that a 30-minute documentary will be accompanying Zack Snyder’s Justice League upon its release. Firsht worked as a Cameraman and behind-the-scenes DP on both Wonder Woman and the theatrical 2017 version of Justice League. His other behind-the-scenes credits include Fast and the Furious: Hobbs & Shaw and The Skywalker Legacy, a feature-length documentary about the making of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He also confirmed that the short documentary would contain an interview with Snyder himself.

Firsht shared his excitement on Instagram with a caption that reads, “The week has finally arrived for the Zack Snyder cut!! It’s being released worldwide on Thursday March 18th along with a 30min documentary about the making of JL, which includes all my original ‘never before seen’ footage from the set and a major interview with Mr Snyder himself. I’m sooooo happy it’s finally going to be seen by all the fans that have made this unprecedented event happen!!”

Even though the film is not available for the general public yet, early reviews for Zack Snyder’s Justice League from critics have been coming in and they’re mostly positive. While the film is predictably divisive amongst critics, with some believing Snyder’s version to be too long and bloated, most seem to be in agreement that the four-hour cut is certainly better than its 2017 theatrical predecessor. The film has gotten a lot of positive feedback on social media and is currently sitting at a 75% rating on rotten tomatoes, compared to the theatrical release’s dismal 40% rating. Some early reviews point to Ray Fisher’s Cyborg being featured more heavily in the film, as much of his backstory and characterization were removed from the 2017 version.

Justice League has definitely had one of the most tumultuous and infamous behind-the-scenes stories in film history. The superhero team-up film saw its original director forced to leave after a family tragedy only to be replaced by interim director Joss Whedon, who was abusive and difficult to work with by many accounts. After a vocal online movement, Snyder was able to return and finish the film as he had originally intended, with support in particular from the cast and fans.

Hopefully, the short documentary will be able to give further insight into the long journey to fruition for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, 30 minutes seems short for a movie that has such a controversial behind-the-scenes story and a runtime that rivals Lawrence of Arabia.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be premiering on HBO Max on Thursday, March 18th, 2021.
