How to Turn On Fallout 76’s FPS Boost | Game Rant

Thanks to the power upgrade of the latest generation of Xbox consoles, five Bethesda titles, such as Fallout 76Skyrim, and Dishonored Definitive Edition, can now benefit from a frame rate boost. The boost only applies to Xbox Series X and Series S consoles and must be turned on manually for certain games, such as Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

The news comes just a few days after Xbox’s successful acquisition of Bethesda and its studios, bringing lots of the studios’ work onto Game Pass. The five Bethesda titles that currently benefit from the frame rate boost from 30 frames-per-second to 60 frames-per-second are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special EditionDishonored: Definitive Edition, and Prey.

For the FPS boost to work with games such as Fallout 76, there must also be a slight reduction in resolution to ensure the increased frame rate is stable. For older games, this is not the case, so the FPS boost automatically applies, but more demanding games require this feature to be turned on manually.

Before getting started, Xbox users should know that when they alter a game’s compatibility settings, the game needs to be restarted for them to apply, so it is best to have all games shut down already. Furthermore, if any players are installing particularly large games with long downloads from Xbox Game Pass, like Fallout 76, they can still change the compatibility settings even while it is installing.

Firstly, find Fallout 76 on your Xbox. This can be done by finding the appropriate tile on the Xbox dashboard screen, on the Xbox guide, or in the “My games and apps” section. Once players are hovering over the Fallout 76 icon, press the menu button on the Xbox controller – that’s the one to the lower-right of the Xbox button – to bring up a list of options.

Next, from this options list, scroll down to the “Manage game and add-ons” and press A. This will bring players to the manage page for Fallout 76. There will be three buttons towards the top-left corner of the screen with the bottom one saying “Compatibility options.”

Clicking on the “Compatibility options” button will take players through to the compatibility options page for Fallout 76. For other games, there may be other options available to change, but to enable the FPS boost for Fallout 76, players need to navigate down to the FPS boost box and press A to check the box. Players can go back to the Xbox dashboard or “My games and apps” page to find Fallout 76 again and load it up, this time running at 60 FPS.

Other games, including some non-Bethesda titles such as Far Cry 4 and Watch Dogs 2, already support the FPS boost feature, and Xbox has already said that even more games will benefit from the feature in the future.

Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and for free as part of Xbox Game Pass.
