Xbox’s gaming subscription service, Game Pass, keeps growing in value with every passing day. Already making hundreds of games available to players for a low monthly price, the recent acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media has made the service a lot more convincing for a massive chunk of gamers. In addition to this, the rumor mill keeps churning with the latest among the bunch being the addition of Ubisoft games on the platform. One additional rumor suggested that People Can Fly’s Outriders was on its way to be included in the service.
It seems that those rumors ended up being very true, as Xbox has officially confirmed that Outriders would be available on Xbox Game Pass day-and-date with the game’s launch day. Fans are already delighted at the prospect of trying out the game at launch, and it seems that a multitude of factors makes the Xbox Game Pass service the best platform for the game.
As much as Outriders may turn out to be great, the concept of third-person shooters with co-op elements and team abilities is one that has been explored multiple times in the subgenre. Adding injury to the fact is many recent titles have suffered from disastrous launches, with two notable examples being Bioware’s Anthem and Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. While this doesn’t imply that Outriders may follow the same path, but that there will a bunch of gamers refraining from purchasing the game initially because of these concerns.
However, the availability of Outriders on Xbox Game Pass gives a lot of reason for gamers to at least try out the game at launch. In the case that one doesn’t like the game, there’s already a lot of other games on offer to enjoy with Game Pass, but this also appeals to existing Game Pass subscribers as well. Game Pass has already proven itself to be great for gaming funk, and players looking for a meaty co-op shooter may find the perfect match with Outriders.
While it’s true that Outriders isn’t a games as a service title, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of additional content or expansions in the future. People Can Fly has already stated multiple times that Outriders would be a one-time purchase and there are currently no plans for DLCs. However, the looter-shooter nature of the game does warrant a lot of rigorous feedback in terms of drop rates, balance updates, and the likes.
Xbox Game Pass has a huge subscriber base, and the number of players is definitively bound to be higher as more players would be tempted to try out Outriders at launch. This, in turn, can generate a lot of feedback which seems essential for this kind of game. Inconsistencies in the game’s balance can be ironed out very quickly and easily with such an amount of feedback available at the developer’s disposal, which would definitely make Outriders better by the day. On the topic of future DLCs and expansions, similar feedback can be gained about how to expand the game’s universe and deciding upon key-elements of the game’s post-launch support.
Outriders is set to release on April 1 on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
