The Persona franchise has exploded in popularity over the last decade, reaching peak interest with the release of Persona 5. With the initial 2017 release of Persona 5 making waves, followed by the record breaking sales of Persona 5 Royal, the fanbase continues to gain momentum through each new release. Yet, despite the recently released Persona 5 Strikers expanding to more platforms than ever before, one hardware brand has been consistently overlooked.
Xbox fans have been left out of the Persona loop, as publisher Atlus has opted to release the Shin Megami Tensei spinoff on other platforms like PlayStation. Despite the franchise becoming a major hit in the West, the Xbox brand has yet to have a single Persona release. With more players wondering why Microsoft’s platform is being ignored, a well-known insider is indicating that may change soon.
Jez Corden of Windows Central is teasing the idea that Xbox hardware will no longer be suffering from a Persona drought. Corden posted an interesting tweet after one Twitter user hoped that Xbox players would finally be able to play Persona 5. In response to this tweet, Corden posted a simple smiley face as his answer which has provided new hope that Persona 5 will possibly be coming to Xbox.
This is by no means any form of concrete information that Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal, or even Persona 5 Strikers will be hitting Xbox, but it is a sliver of hope for fans. These hopes stem far beyond Corden’s Tweet as speculation about the brand expanding platforms started with the PC release of Persona 4 Golden last year. With the massive success of Persona 4 Golden‘s PC port, Atlus already started to speculate about further ports. This was proven to be a new mandate by the company as Persona 5 Strikers released on both PC and Switch alongside the PlayStation 4 version.
To further add fuel to the fire, a recent Atlus survey may have already indicated that this is something Atlus has considered. The new Atlus questionnaire directly asked fans about their interest in its games on Xbox. This is considered by fans to be a very significant change as this was the first time Xbox hardware has been listed in Atlus’ yearly surveys. While its too early to tell if this survey had any impact, it does mean that Atlus is clearly considering the Xbox as a viable platform.
So between Corden’s tweet, previous statements by Atlus, the recent survey, and the success of the publisher’s ports, the idea that Persona 5 will finally hit Xbox won’t be entirely surprising. As usual, its best to wait for further information before fans already start planning their calendars for dungeon crawling and ramen dates.
Persona 5 is available now for the PlayStation 4.
