Square Enix to Focus on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 After Yuffie DLC

Not too long ago, Square Enix announced that a PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake would be coming later this year, in June to be specific, and with that would come along some brand-new story content. Episode Yuffie is paid DLC that allows Final Fantasy fans the chance to control Yuffie to see what she was up to during the events of the first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The DLC is only available for PS5 owners, as it takes full advantage of the console’s power, offering shorter loading times, improved visuals, and some other neat enhancements.

But, ever since the announcement of this special episode that adds to the overall narrative of the Remake universe, some fans have been wondering just when Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 would be coming, as it’s been almost a year now since Part 1 came out. Luckily, fans will be happy to know that Part 2 is on the way and will be the main focus for the team.

Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura recently did an interview with the Japanese magazine, Famitsu, in which he spoke about the development of both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the upcoming Yuffie DLC. While the entire interview is in Japanese, details from the article were translated by reliable gaming news source @nibellion on Twitter. Nomura mentions that there is no further DLC planned for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and that the team will now be focusing on releasing Part 2 for now.

Some other interesting details were also highlighted by Nibellion, such as the fact that the team originally planned to only release a PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake instead of the DLC and that Intergrade (the enhanced version of FF7R) “helped the team prepare for development on the PS5.” Nomura says that the transition from PS4 to PS5 went smoothly and that there is a possibility for future DLC to release after the “next big game is out,” which we can assume is Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, or whatever Square Enix decides to title it.

And speaking of Square Enix, this isn’t the only upcoming Final Fantasy 7-connected title coming out. The company is planning to really flesh out the universe of the PS1 classic with two new mobile games. Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier is a battle royale game that’s set decades before the events of the main game and Ever Crisis is an episodic RPG that focuses on plot elements from spin-offs like Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Yuffie’s DLC will release for the PlayStation 5 on June 10, 2021.
