Video Shows What The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Looks Like With 8K Resolution

Out of the many accolades that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received since its release, perhaps one of the most frequent is its gorgeous graphics. Described by the game’s Art Director Satoru Takizawa as a “painterly art style” which aimed to combine the “realism of the game world with its playability,” the look of Breath of the Wild is recognizable and iconic. Even games made after Breath of the Wild‘s release that share its dreamy art style have often been dubbed “Breath of the Wild clones,” with Pokemon Legends: Arceus as a recent example.

But even with Breath of the Wild‘s beautiful graphics, new upgrades in technology can always seem to make images a little more crisp. 8K resolution is the latest threshold to impress viewers across games, television, and film, and more gamers and game developers are testing out what 8K has to offer. PC gamers with some incredible setups have been able to reach 8K at 60fps for some games, like in this video of Batman Arkham Knight. Now, Breath of the Wild has also received the 8K treatment in a video showing off the game’s beautiful landscapes.

The 8K video of Breath of the Wild was uploaded by the Digital Dreams YouTube channel, which contains a plethora of videos showing high resolution upgrades of popular games. The stunning graphics in these videos are apparently achieved in part by using the ReShade post-processing injector as well as a ray-tracing shader program. This particular video also makes use of the CEMU Wii U console emulator.

Some of the most impressive aspects of Breath of the Wild in 8K are the light and shadow effects, which are wonderfully demonstrated in the Korok Forest. The sun bathes the forest undergrowth in patterns of light as Link moves around and the little wisps of material floating in the air are clearly visible. This video also makes it even easier to appreciate the draw distance in Breath of the Wild as Link walks across the open plains. Players can travel to almost any location they can spot, and there are some truly breathtaking locations in Breath of the Wild.

Seeing Breath of the Wild in full 8K splendor will probably make fans even more excited for the possibilities of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. It’s possible that news of Breath of the Wild 2 will be coming later this year, and many are hoping the game could even release in 2021. With the massive success of Breath of the Wild, the sequel certainly has a daunting legacy to live up to.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available for Switch and Wii U.
