Players currently part of Xbox‘s Insider Program likely noticed an interesting new update to their Series X or S today, with the console’s dashboard now sporting a new feature. A “suspend my game” button has officially been added for users of the early-access service, allowing them to put their currently active games on standby while organizing downloads on the “Manage Queue” page.
For those wondering exactly why the feature has been added, Xbox’s Engineering Lead Eden Marie explained the use of the button to players via Twitter, clarifying that it will offer more options when it comes to downloading games. According to Marie, suspending games will speed up downloads on the Xbox Series X and S while ensuring the user’s quick resume is preserved. It means players won’t have to worry about losing their spot in a game just because they want faster download speeds.
Seeing as the feature is currently being tested through the Xbox Insider Program, it’s sure to release to the rest of Xbox‘s playerbase sooner rather than later. Marie also reveals that the update brings new banners in the full library page, with the engineering lead claiming it “will take you to more useful categories.” Both seem like helpful additions to the Xbox dashboard, offering users more options when it comes to downloading games or finding categories.
Microsoft has been making headlines across the industry over the past few weeks, offering a slate of new announcements regarding what’s to come for the company. It recently revealed that Xbox Game Pass will welcome an influx of new games, including People Can Fly’s upcoming co-op shooter Outriders as well as Octopath Traveler, Star Wars: Squadrons, Empire of Sin, and Undertale. Its recent Bethesda acquisition has also loaded up the service’s library, including titles such as Skyrim, Oblivion, Prey, Dishonored, The Evil Within, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and Fallout 4.
On top of that, the company has recently discussed a brand new feature it’s integrating to ensure backward compatible games run at their best. Known as FPS Boost, the addition takes older games and enhances their frame rate, making them run smoother and deliver modernized gameplay experiences. The lineup of titles currently featuring FPS Boost is fairly stacked, boasting the likes of Skyrim, Prey, Dishonored, UFC 4, Super Lucky’s Tale, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs 2, and a few others. It appears Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to offer fans the best console experience it possibly can.
