The world has been taken by storm by the adorable miniature figurines known as Funko Pops. Over the course of the company’s existence, over 8,200 unique Funko Pops have been designed and dispersed for all fans of pop culture to enjoy. The cutesy figurines come in many different forms, from popular cartoon characters to actors in shows and movies to public figures, and they even have customizable ones!
Funko has organized multiple product campaigns and events where all of their proceeds go to charity. Funko Cares, their organization that gives back to those in need, works hand in hand with big and small charities to help out people all across the world. Some of the best Funko Pops you can buy are the ones that help the less fortunate, just like the ones below.
10 Frontline Heroes
The pandemic has left so many people in unfortunate situations, and our essential medical workers have been there to get victims the care they need. Funko Pop made a line of four Frontline Heroes to commemorate those who are risking their lives each day to protect us in these tragic times. The official site states, “In association with this collection, Funko has made a donation to Global Giving, a 501c nonprofit organization based in the United States that provides a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects.”
9 LGBTQ+ Pops!
Three stunning new Pops were introduced back in March 2020 that were a part of a donation to help the LGBTQ+ community. The three Pops were Hello Kitty, Sponge-Bob, and Batman, but instead of their typical color schemes and outfits, the three popular figures were completed decked out in rainbow. In their announcement before the release, Funko stated, “A donation from Funko has also been made to the It Gets Better Project, an organization that uplifts, empowers, and connects LGBTQ+ youth around the globe, in support of this program.”
8 SDCC’s eBay Collab
As a part of San Diego Comic Con’s 2020 virtual convention, Funko and eBay collaborated for a digital charity auction. All the proceeds from the auction went to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The organization works hard to promote racial equality in education, voting, political participation, economic justice, and criminal justice.
Exclusive and rare Funko Pops made an appearance in the auction, including Pops from their Myths collection, Funko Prototypes, PEZ dispensers, and tickets for 2021 SDCC.
7 BCRF Collection
Yet another donation in 2020, Funko designed an exclusive line of all-pink Pops to donate the sales to breast cancer research. BCRF’s website states, “In support of BCRF, Funko has donated $25,000 to fund 500 hours of breast cancer research.” The new line of pink characters includes Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Harley Quinn. All decked out in pink uniforms, these superheroes and villains look way cuter than usual, and the proceeds went to a great cause, so it was truly a win-win for fans and researchers alike.
6 Bushfire Hero
The year 2020 started out tragically, with Australia suffering from extreme wildfires that devastated countless communities. To help out the country, along with spreading gratitude to the heroes putting themselves in danger to protect the wildlife, Funko Pop created a limited edition firefighter with a koala. Over $750k earned from the Pop went straight to the RSPCA National Bushfire Appeal.
5 Toys for Tots Foundation
Funko has donated to the Toys for Tots Foundation for many years, and in 2018 they had contributed $10 million worth of toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation.
Being a toy company means there are plenty of toys to be donated, and Funko wants to make sure they give back to their community in any way they can. Each holiday season they provide thousands of their adorable figurines to those who can’t afford them.
4 Oscar for GOSH
Smyths Toys teamed up with Funko in 2020 where they designed an exclusive Pop! Vinyl of the lovable brand character, Oscar. All the profits gained from the new, smiling Pop were sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, GOSH Charity, to bring comfort and support to ill children. The charity is based in London and they focus on giving donations to fund children’s health research, to provide children with life-saving treatments, and to give comfort where needed.
3 Pops! For Patients
Rather than just monetary donations, the organization Pops! For Patients collects all kinds of Funko Pops to give to youth in hospitals and medical care facilities all across the country. They have been able to donate thousands of the admirable figurines to children who love them, bringing countless smiles to their faces.
2 JDRF Mystery Boxes
Though this charity campaign wasn’t organized by Funko Pop themselves, a website that sells hard to find and exclusive Pops created mystery boxes for customers to purchase, where 100% of the proceeds would go to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF, which is the world leader in research leading to a cure for type 1 diabetes.
The mystery boxes were £15 each and plenty of fans took the mysterious gamble to help the cause. Spending money to possibly get a rare figurine and to give to those in need is a fantastic purchase for Funko Pop fans.
1 Feeding America’s Scooby-Doo Pops
Another charity that was benefitted through the sale of Funko Pops was Feeding America, a hunger relief organization with food banks across the nation that feeds those in need. They were given donations from BoxLunch, a popular chain store that sells accessories, novelties, and gifts. On Feeding America’s website, they explained that “for every exclusive Feeding America® Scooby-Doo Funko Pop! sold, BoxLunch will help donate $1.50 to the Feeding America COVID-19 Response Fund to help provide food and resources to families and children in need.”
