Big Games Nintendo Could Use to Reach Its Software Sales Goals

Nintendo is riding an all-time high lately, with the great success that is the Nintendo Switch, as well as its stellar library of exclusives. The revised Nintendo Switch Lite, as well as the rumored Nintendo “Super” Switch is expected to see similar success for the next few years.

It seems that the gaming giant has great plans in store, and is expecting record-breaking software and hardware sales in the coming year. While the hardware side of things is tangentially dependent on the rumored “Super” Switch, there are some notable games that would definitively be great for Nintendo for reaching its target of a 250 million units.

It may seem like the most obvious choice for impressive software sales, but Breath of the Wild‘s sequel isn’t outside of reason. The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s darlings, one that has typically proven monumental to the success of its consoles generation after generation. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch and played a huge role in making a bold statement about the console’s capabilities.

Its sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was announced in E3 2019, and much hasn’t been shown much since. The game has a decent chance of making it out next year, which could help quite a bit in reaching such high software sales figures.

Another entry in the long line of heavily anticipated, yet rarely seen games, Metroid Prime 4 was announced way back in 2017. Almost four years later, much isn’t known about at what point in development the game is, and how long it will take for the game to release. The project had been reassigned from Bandai Namco Studios to Retro Studios in 2019, after which fans haven’t received any substantial news. Still, there’s a slim chance that Metroid Prime 4 would come out next year, depending on how far along in development the game is.

Announced very recently, Splatoon 3 is another entry in the inventive yet familiar Splatoon series of games. While the last two games have enjoyed great critical and commercial success, Nintendo’s decision to continue the series definitely means that there’s still a lot of potential left to capitalize on.

Splatoon 3 features an all-new buddy system, which would form the basis to build most newer mechanics from. Fans may have not received a great deal of gameplay, but there’s enough tease to get excited about what’s in store. If Nintendo tries to push Splatoon 3 heavily, there’s a decent chance that it’d help the company quite a bit in reaching its sales figures when it comes out sometime in 2022.

A prequel to the highly-requested Brillant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes, Pokemon Legends: Acreus is shaping up to be one of Nintendo Switch’s premier exclusives in 2022. The game tasks players on a journey to create the Sinnoh region’s very first Pokedex. The game will be an open-world title, with standout highlights being seamless transitions between all facets of gameplay such as exploration, capturing, combat, and stealth elements.

In addition to this, players would get to choose from a new roster of starting Pokemon of Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott. Hopefully, the newer open-world setup and associated mechanics turn out to be a treat to series fans.
