Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has no shortage of weapons for players to choose from, and the list only grows larger with each passing season. While fans have known for some time now that the crossbow would be coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War due to official trailers and images, a bundle has shown up in the store that implies it may be arriving sooner rather than later.
This is not the first time that there has been a midseason weapon leak for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Early into Season 1, the Streetsweeper shotgun, Sledgehammer melee weapon, and Wakizashi sword were unlockable in the game. With these guns meant to come in the midseason Reloaded update, they were eventually removed from player inventories. It seems like the crossbow has leaked ahead of its midseason debut as well, though Treyarch has clearly put some systems in place to prevent it from being used early.
As shown by Call of Duty leaker @ModernWarzone, a special weapon bundle called Archaic Range has appeared in the store for the crossbow. Cleary not meant to release until the weapon has actually been added to the lineup of guns, the accidental posting will surely be removed sooner rather than later. While players may be hoping that a purchase of the bundle will unlock the weapon early, unfortunately, that is not the case.
Though purchasing the bundle will result in the pack entering the bundle locker, players will not be able to equip it and use it in-game. Clearly a sign of Treyarch learning from its past mistakes with midseason weapon additions, players will have to wait until Season 2 Reloaded arrives sometime in the next few weeks. That said, fans at least know one of the possible blueprints for the weapon, with a look at the charm, emblem, and sticker that accompany the Lancehead crossbow provided as well.
For players desperate to know how the crossbow will function in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, footage has been posted online of the weapon in action. Appearing during a game of Gunfight, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s crossbow is wielded with two hands. While it is accurate and a guaranteed one-shot kill, it is held back by a brutally slow reload time. Essentially, the bow performs much like the one from the original Black Ops game, minus the explosive functionality.
For now, though, fans will have to wait just a bit longer to wield the crossbow. Though it would surely be nice to see it added to Gun Game sooner rather than later, this leaked bundle not allowing access proves that Treyarch is determined to hold the crossbow back until the middle of Season 2.
