Deathloop Video Highlights Character Design | Game Rant

A new video from Arkane Studios gives players a personal look at a number of the characters who make an appearance in the upcoming title Deathloop. Not only do fans get a deep look at protagonist Colt, but also some of the best views the developer has released yet of the eight targets central to closing the game’s loop.

The video was put together by Arkane Studios lead character artist Jean-Baptiste Ferder, who also gives in-depth explanations about some of the inspirations for many of these characters. Fortunately, none of the descriptions and behind-the-scenes looks delve into spoiler territory, being careful to avoid any information that might give away how to best take down Deathloop‘s villains.

To start off the video, Ferder goes over Colt’s aviator jacket and special customizations the character has added to it, including stickers, pins, and new paint jobs. One of the more interesting aspects of Colt’s design might be his belt buckle, which according to Ferder was forged with the real belt buckle designed by lead concept artist Jean-Luc Monnet acting as the reference for the 3D model. Beyond that, the video goes on to show off the villains of Deathloop, including the adversarial assassin Julianna and targets that the player will have to hunt down throughout the game.

This look at Colt’s targets might be the closest players will ever get to the characters, compared to what will be possible in-game without starting an all-out gunfight. From this view, fans can see all of the sixties-inspired design of Deathloop, including character haircuts and choice in glasses, as well as the wardrobes of the villains. Considering how stylized the game is, this in-depth look at character design may be something players need before going ahead and picking the game up.

Hopefully, Arkane Studios will release another one of these looks at the design details of Deathloop before launch, as there are a number of interesting sights from around Blackreef Island that would be interesting to see up close. For those fans that enjoy learning about the development process, it might also be interesting to see how the designs of some of the lesser enemies and locations came about beyond the main villains. Still, this new look at Colt and his enemies is a great showcase of what Deathloop has in store for its main cast of characters.

Deathloop is set to release on May 21 for PC and PS5.
