Monster World 4 Rated For Nintendo Switch | Game Rant

As the game industry is deep in the throes of remakes and remasters, the title Monster World 4 is receiving a remake from developer Artdink called Wonder Boy – Asha In Monster World. Its release date is scheduled for sometime in March 2021, but a recent rating from the ESRB shows that fans may be getting more than was bargained for.

Monster World 4 is part of the Wonder Boy/Monster World franchise that originally began in the arcades in 1986. Future iterations of the series released for both the Master System and Sega Genesis as home consoles gained in popularity, with Monster World 4 releasing for the Sega Mega Drive in 1994. The title became well-known for its juxtaposition of RPG mechanics and platforming across a colorful world with whimsical kid-friendly enemies and combat.

Now, ESRB reports that it has rated Monster World 4, which received an “E for Everyone” classification. This rating was a surprise – one that was originally thought to be made in error due to the possibly confusing title schema between original and remake. The most popular theory at the time of announcement was that Monster World 4 would be included in a physical release, along with the remake title. It should be noted that Monster World 4 released as Wonder Boy 4 in the United States, yet the publishers have consistently referred to the title as Monster World 4 during the remake.

Strictly Limited Games is handling the release of the remake and has confirmed the physical edition will include Monster World 4 as a separate title. The original title will be included on the Nintendo Switch cartridge, and available as a digital download for PlayStation 4 users. Also confirmed is that the title will offer an “easy mode” to ensure that those who just want to enjoy the classic narrative can do so with ease. Strictly Limited Games will offer Wonder Boy – Asha In Monster World as three distinct editions for the upcoming release, ranging in cost from €39.99 to €179.99.

The one question that remains is how successful the title will handle the remake. Concerns have been voiced from fans of Monster World 4 regarding the loss of charm in the displayed trailers, while others find it remains true to form. The team behind Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is composed entirely of the “original Westone team” to include the composer and character designer. If nothing else, it appears that Monster World 4‘s vision will remain intact.

Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is set to release PS4 and Switch in March 2021.
