Even though the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles went on sale last November, both are still incredibly hard to come by. A combination of factors have made it difficult for the average consumer to find either one of the next-generation consoles, and so all they can do is try their best whenever stores get some fresh stock. One retailer that has regularly restocked its supply of PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles is Walmart, and a new batch is set to go live later today.
Walmart has confirmed that a new batch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles will be available later today, online-only. Both the PlayStation 5 Disc Edition and PS5 Digital Edition will be available to purchase from Walmart starting at 3:00pm ET/2:00pm CT/12pm PT. Remember that the two versions of the PS5 are the same in terms of horsepower and can run all of the same games, though the Digital Edition does not have a disc drive and is $100 cheaper.

As far as Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles go, Walmart is handling things a little bit differently. If someone wants to purchase the consoles outright, they will have the chance to do so at 2:30pm ET. However, those who want to purchase the consoles using the Xbox All Access program will need to try their luck at 3:00pm ET like with the PlayStation consoles. Anyone that fails to get their console in the first wave should note that Walmart has typically released more batches every 10-15 minutes or so during the restocks, so it’s worth trying again.

Even though gamers have advanced notice as to when they will be able to try to buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X console from Walmart, it will still be very difficult to do so. There is unprecedented demand for these next-generation consoles, and that combined with scalpers, bots, traffic slowing down Walmart’s site, and other issues will make it a real challenge for people to get their next-generation consoles.
Luckily, there is some hope on the horizon. Both PlayStation and Xbox seem to think that the supply issues for their consoles will be resolved come the summertime. And as more people are vaccinated against COVID-19, supply issues related to the virus should also be lessened, in turn making it much easier to walk into a store and walk out with a PS5 or Xbox Series X in tow.
