Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Release Date Revealed

Last month, after a year of waiting, Atlus finally released the Persona and Dynasty Warriors mashup action-RPG Persona 5 Strikers, a collaboration between the beloved JRPG developer and action game developer Omega Force. This release came as a surprise considering two outstanding titles the studio has yet to release, Shin Megami Tensei 5, and Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster, a return to the cult classic PS2 RPG. While the next mainline entry is still slated for later this year, a press email from Nintendo of Europe has revealed when fans can expect Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster to finally release in English.

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne first released in Japan in 2003, where the game was met with financial and critical success. The game released in North America a year later with a localization based on the Maniax edition of the game, which added Devil May Cry‘s Dante as an optional boss and party member. In Europe, the game was released under the title Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer’s Call. The game has gone on to be one of the most beloved games in Atlus’ history and one of most iconic PlayStation 2 RPGs.

Despite releasing in Japan last October, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster has remained slated for a “Spring 2021” release window in the west since its announcement at last August’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase event. Atlus has also not revealed any information regarding the game’s new voice acting or if the game will include an English dub. Now, a press release from Nintendo of Europe has revealed that Nocturne HD will release on May 25.

The press release, which highlights titles releasing on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch this week, claims that pre-orders will open tomorrow, March 19 at 5 PM ET and that pre-orders will close on May 24 6:59 PM. This is more or less confirmation that the remaster will launch on May 25 in North America and Europe.

While it’s unfortunate there is no other information to go along with this release date, it does mean that the news is likely to be shared alongside a trailer for the English version of the remaster during or before the Shin Megami Tensei ~Reason Of Music~ Concert, which is set to stream online on March 20 at 6 AM ET. Atlus has a history with announcing titles at concerts such as this as it has with titles such as Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers in the past.

What this information does not confirm is the possibility of a PC port of Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, as data included in the Japanese version of the game has indicated. It is possible that Atlus is preparing to launch the game on PC via Steam alongside other western versions of the game much like it did with Persona 5 Strikers just last month, which has likely contributed to the delay between the Japanese and English releases.

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster will release for PlayStation 4 and Switch on May 25.
