‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Sets Up Several Marvel Projects

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is an odd bird. On the one hand, its final trailer makes it look like an action-packed Marvel extravaganza; on the other, it still has to deal with the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame and make sure the new Captain America fits right in with the rest of the MCU.

Entering the post-blip MCU is a complicated narrative that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will try to tackle, but unlike Sam Wilson on his missions, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige does seem to have a concrete plan for it. Whether or not that path is in line with the most recent alleged Marvel leak on Reddit, that’s an entirely different matter.

Speaking from a firsthand perspective, Feige recently told Entertainment Weekly that there are two kinds of Marvel productions in Phase Four, those that are “relatively standalone or connect back to Endgame” and some shows that are being planned as potential multiseason entries. Meanwhile, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writer Malcolm Spellman hinted at something similar by pointing out there are no less than three Marvel productions that will be heavily influenced by what happens in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, though he’s of course “not allowed to talk about” that.

Both men are equally against stepping into the realm of spoilers, however, Feige did admit there’s a clear future already drawn out for characters in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. His statement might include other folks besides Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, both of which will naturally have their MCU fate spelled out by what transpires in the show.

Early bets would surely point to one of those being Armor Wars, which would likely be a late 2022 or 2023 Disney Plus release, as its star Don Cheadle is confirmed to appear in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier at some point. Returning Captain America star Emily VanCamp could also be a part of these plans as Sharon Carter is probably going to wind up working with Nick Fury by the time the Secret Invasion lands on planet Earth.

Aside from all of this, let’s not forget that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is also looking to entertain with laughter, as an essential part of the series is the chemistry between Wilson and Barnes’ contrasting personalities making for a great superpowered buddy cop theme. WandaVision‘s setting ended up being mostly a story of character growth for the Scarlet Witch in order to prepare her for a bigger role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so perhaps fans should go light on the fan theories this time around.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be available on Disney Plus starting March 19, 2021.
