Wreckfest Gets Xbox Series X Upgrade, PS5 Version “a No-Brainer”

Bugbear Entertainment’s Wreckfest brought demolition derby action to PC in 2018 and landed on consoles a year later. Now, the increasingly popular metal-bending racer ramps up its support for the Xbox Series X.

Bugbear announced Tuesday that Wreckfest just received a new update boosting performance on the Xbox Series X. There is no official word on a PS5 update, however, although a studio representative said that it would be a smart move for the game’s future.

The performance boost is part of Wreckfest’s latest tournament update, “Woodland Dash.” The update went live on Tuesday and includes new content on all platforms. In addition, Wreckfest can now take full advantage of the Series X hardware, enabling 4K HD at 60fps. Series S players will also be able to twist some steel in 4K, although Wreckfest remains capped at 30fps on the Xbox Series S.

The 1.9.0.4 update for the Xbox One version also includes several bug fixes, including various multiplayer and performance improvements. PC and PS4 versions also got some attention from developer Bugbear Entertainment, as Wreckfest received gameplay tweaks and balance adjustments on all platforms.

And just because Xbox is getting most of the love right now does not mean Bugbear stopped caring about its fans on PlayStation. While the studio has not shared specific plans for a PS5 update, it seems to be on the table. In response to fan questions, Bugbear staff member Janne Suur-Näkki said, “It does seem like a no-brainer to take advantage of the power of the PS5, and we feel like Wreckfest would benefit from it tremendously.” While that is not precisely a firm yes, it’s more than a maybe. Still, PS5 gamers will need to be patient, as PS5 support may still be far off.

The current updates also include a new car, two new routes, and the new Woodland Dash Tournament Mode, in addition to the other improvements. And since Microsoft recently added Wreckfest to Game Pass, Xbox players have one more reason to give it a try. PS5 players, however, may be in for a bit of a wait before the game is ready for everything Sony’s console has to offer.

Wreckfest is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
