Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to Get Hello Kitty Items

A number of Hello Kitty items will be coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons later this month, along with their matching villagers. Most likely, the only way to get these villagers and their themed items is by purchasing the amiibo cards, but there might be a loophole.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are eagerly anticipating the arrival of new villagers. But not just any new villagers; thanks to the previously announced Sanrio Collaboration Pack, six Sanrio villagersEtoile, Chai, Chelsea, Marty, Toby, and Rillawill come to players’ islands on March 26. What’s even better is that they’ll each have correlating furniture sets themed after their inspired characters. For example, Etoile is inspired by the Little Twin Stars and will come with Kiki and Layla items such as a bed, a clock, a cloud maker, a wand, and clothing items. It seems like Chai, based on Sanrio’s Cinnamoroll, is currently a fan-favorite with her themed parasol, sofa, and flooring.

The first step to getting the in-game Sanrio items is by purchasing the Sanrio amiibo cards, which can only be acquired through Target. Unfortunately, the amiibo cards won’t be distributed through competing storefronts that sell gaming items such as Best Buy or GameStop, but players can seemingly purchase them either online or in storefronts. The amiibo cards will be affordable at $5.99 each; however, it’s likely that certain amiibo cards will be more popular than others and will therefore sell out faster. Of course, each villager’s amiibo card will only bring their correlating items to the game.

After purchasing the amiibo cards, head over to Harv’s island. Here, players can bring each of the Sanrio villagers into Animal Crossing: New Horizons temporarily and do some photoshoots, but tapping the amiibo cards will also unlock all of their related items including both clothing and furniture. To purchase them, open the Nook Shopping app and tab over to the right-most page labeled “Promotion,” and all of the correlating items should appear.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons collaboration should unlock around 12 to 14 items per card, each around 1,000 bells to 5,000 bells. However, it’s possible that players will be able to get the items without purchasing the amiibo cards.

Players might be able to gift or trade the items with other players who have not purchased the amiibo cards, but because New Horizons has not yet seen paid DLC, it’s unclear if this will be allowed. If it will be possible, it’ll likely result in fans spending real money on the in-game items and villagers.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
