March 18 marked the official release of one of the most awaited films, Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While fans were busy celebrating the occasion and praising Snyder’s vision after campaigning for years to see the Snyder Cut, they were supported by Superman actor Henry Cavill, who joined in to express his excitement.
On his official Instagram account, Cavill, who plays the Man of Steel in Justice League, shared three behind-the-scenes photos while congratulating Snyder for finally being able to see his vision come to life. “And what a movie it is,” he wrote about the project, which has seen Snyder go through a long and difficult journey.
The images shared by Cavill offer fans a glimpse of how different scenes were shot for the film back in 2017. The first shows the actor in his Kal-El form, surrounded by a green screen. It is a shot taken on the sets during the shooting of the scene when Superman is first resurrected by the Justice League members and returns to Heroes Park. Still confused, Superman goes on to attack the group after Cyborg accidentally launches a projectile at him. The second image offers a look at Clark Kent in his reporter form, but fans who have seen the Snyder Cut will know that the scene ends with him revealing his Superman costume, presumably leaving on a mission to save some folks. The final image was taken at the Kent farmhouse, the character’s childhood home.
The Snyder Cut marks Cavill’s return as Superman after his last appearance in Joss Whedon’s altered version of the Justice League. Whedon’s version of the film was mocked for digitally removing Cavill’s mustache after some re-shoots required the actor to return while filming Mission: Impossible – Fallout. In addition, Whedon’s vision of the character was not welcomed by DC fans, who expected the classic hero represented in the original comics to return after the resurrection.
Snyder’s original plans for Justice League were much different and he delivered the hero that fans wanted to see since Cavill’s first appearance as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel. The Snyder Cut offers the character a more appropriate return, and while the character is known for his iconic red and blue suit, Cavill is seen donning the black Superman suit, something that fans of the comics were waiting to see since Justice League’s theatrical release.
After being killed in the Death of Superman storyline from the comics, the iconic character is later revived and appears in a black suit with silver highlights. Snyder’s vision stays true to the comics, thus honoring the original creators. Since there are no plans for a sequel to Justice League at the moment, it remains to be seen if Cavill will return as one of the most powerful DC superheroes.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is now available on HBO Max.
