‘King Of The Hill’ Writer Excitedly Teases Possible Revival

It appears to be a bit of a golden age for reboots and revivals, and it looks like the minds behind Fox‘s King of the Hill may be gearing up to join Dexter in producing a proper continuation. At least, that’s what series writer Brent Forrester seems to think, if his enthusiastic reply to a fan question is to be believed.

During a recent AMA (ask me anything) on Reddit, Forrester answered one particular query with a surprising lack of the PR speak one might expect. When a fan asked about the possibility of a King of the Hill revival, Forrester apparently decided to forego the usual ‘cannot confirm or deny, but I’d love to!’ response and instead elected to spill the beans. At the moment, his comment is the only information there is to go on with regards to the idea, but his enthusiasm and rather specific description make it seem like more than just wishful thinking.

“I am sure [series creators] Greg Daniels and Mike Judge will murder me for sharing this but… HELL YES,” Forrester said, in response to a comment asking about the rumored reboot. “They are in hot negotiations to bring back King of the Hill. The Trump administration made it suddenly very relevant again. The characters have all aged 15 years. The project is sooooo good. Okay I’ve said too much :)” Of course, this is far from an official confirmation, but the mere suggestion is already enough to send fans into a frenzy of anticipation and speculation that almost rivaled WandaVision for a second, starting with a deluge of replies to Forrester’s comment from users exclaiming their own excitement and anticipation for the idea.

King of the Hill followed conservative father and husband Hank Hill (voiced by Judge himself) along with his family and neighbors, often playing his uptight traditionalist ideals for laughs but still portraying him as an ultimately loving and loyal person. During the past 4 years, many began to speculate whether Hank would have been a Trump supporter, weighing his commitment to his conservative ideals against his genuine care for the people around him. Those discussions naturally gave way to rumors about a possible sequel series, and now Forrester’s own comments have only added fuel to that particular fire.

Even aside from the claim from Forrester, a King of the Hill revival seems almost like a natural progression at this point, and not just because everything up to and including Buck Rogers is getting new life these days. The social conservatism of a character like Hank Hill would have plenty of new material to work off of in a post-Trump world, and aging all the characters 15 years can only add even more potential for the engaging character moments that set the series apart from many of its peers. On one note, if the 15 year thing is meant to be specific, it might even suggest the show would be set in 2015, allowing it to address those issues without contending directly with the fallout of the Trump administration.

Of course, it’s entirely possible Forrester is just hyping fans up for fun. That’s not to say fans should assume that’s the case, but they should certainly be ready for it in order to minimize the possibility of disappointment. Once again, his comment is the only information people have to go on with regards to a King of the Hill reboot, so until a proper confirmation comes along, perhaps it’s best to stay cautiously optimistic. But hey, if G4 can come back, then anything’s possible.
