More Xbox Series X Games Get Quick Resume Functionality

One of the perks of the Xbox Series X is the console’s Quick Resume feature. For the uninitiated, Xbox Series X Quick Resume allows players to suspend play in one game, start another, and then return to the previous game exactly where they left off. It eliminates the need to boot up games and has proven to be quite the popular feature among Xbox Series X owners. Not every game supports Quick Resume, but more are being added to the lineup regularly.

The latest Xbox Insider update has added Quick Resume to six more games. As reported by Pure Xbox, the games in question are CrosscodeCuisine RoyaleNo Man’s SkySamurai ShodownThe Falconeer, and Watch Dogs: Legion. Out of those, Watch Dogs: Legion is likely the headlining game, but Samurai Shodown is also significant as it just launched for Xbox Series X a few days ago.

Microsoft hopes to add Quick Resume to many more games in future, and hopefully one day it will be the norm for the vast majority of Xbox Series X games. As previously stated, Quick Resume is a popular feature, even though it’s arguably been underutilized since launch. Microsoft is working on other Quick Resume improvements as well, so the feature should only improve from here on out.

Fans can expect Xbox first-party games to take advantage of Quick Resume, though it’s not guaranteed that third-party, multiplatform titles will always use it. The biggest games seem to, however, and there are plenty of first-party Xbox games to look forward to. This includes titles like Halo Infinite, which is set to be the big fall 2021 release for Xbox Series X, as well as games like the new Fable game that’s in development at Playground Games.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda means that its lineup of exclusives has expanded considerably. Microsoft has said that it will be honoring Bethesda’s PS5 exclusivity deals for games like Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo, but eventually, Bethesda games will become exclusive to platforms with Xbox Game Pass, which essentially means Android devices, PC, and Xbox consoles. One has to imagine that upcoming games like The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield will use Quick Resume on day one, though that has not been clarified at the time of this writing.

Microsoft releases Xbox Series X console updates regularly, so fans can expect the Quick Resume feature and many other console features to be upgraded as time goes on. Eventually, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Xbox Series X user interface to get a complete overhaul, but for now, it’s using one that looks identical to the Xbox One version.
