Shadowlands: 10 Things You Missed In Maldraxxus | Game Rant

Maldraxxus is home to the universe’s most combative beings. After death, those that lead a life of conquest and war are sent here – famous World of Warcraft characters who show up again in Maldraxxus include war criminal Garrosh Hellscream, fearless Orc warrior Draka, and even the malevolent lich Kel’Thuzad.

Players are sent to Maldraxxus as the second leveling zone in the Shadowlands right after completing Bastion’s intro storyline. It’s quite the scenic change, embodied in a massive statue of The Primus overseeing the decimated terrain. It’s a lore-heavy zone with plenty of combat, but there’s plenty of content that even the most dedicated players will miss.

10 Jiggles’ Favorite Toy

Jiggles is an obtainable pet for members of the Necrolord covenant, but Jiggles’ Favorite Toy can be acquired by anybody. Upon use, the toy aims a laser at the ground and the player’s summoned pet will dash towards it.

This toy can’t be found or looted anywhere in the game. Instead, the player has to travel around Maldraxxus and pet each of the nine kittens located around Maldraxxus. Why were these kittens sent to the plane of battle? Nobody knows, but it’s always nice to have new interactions with pets.

9 Gorespine Mount

The Gorespine mount is a rare drop from the Maldraxxus rare mob Nerissa Heartless. It only has a 2% drop rate, but can be picked up by any player regardless of their covenant. Nerissa Heartless can be found in the House of Rituals in the northeast of the zone.

She only spawns about once every half hour, even less often according to some players. Check the public group listings to see if other realm layers have any better luck, and remember to invite fellow mount hunters for the chance at this drop!

8 The Bloated Lootfly

This rare mob spawns between the House of Eyes and the Theater of Pain and in the House of Eyes itself. It’s not a notable rare for its special drops, as it mainly drops crafting materials and cosmetic-use gear, but it is notable for its obscurity.

The Bloated Lootfly is small and often spawns with little HP. It counts towards rare kills for Calling quests, but otherwise is just a neat special mob not often seen in regular leveling.

7 Get Stick Bugged, ahem, Spinebugged

World of Warcraft would be nothing if not for its pop culture references. If the player goes to a cave between the House of Eyes and the House of Constructs. The map labels a treasure called the Giant Cache of Epic Treasures in the cave, which appears to be a pile of gold…

…when the player clicks it, though, it disappears and a small spinebug appears while whimsical Karazhan music plays. It’s a nod to the Get Stick Bugged meme that also lets you keep the spinebug as a pet.

6 The Necronom-i-nom

Many quests in the Shadowlands are tied to each covenant. The quest Read Between The Lines is available to all characters as a side quest and leads the player to a library to kill The Archivist. In the Archivist’s room, there is a shelf with a clickable book – clicking this gives the player the Necronom-i-nom.

Using this item “eats” an enchanter’s vellum in the inventory to give the player a random beneficial effect on a 30-minute cooldown. This effect can be anything from a better jump, shrinking the player’s model, or turning the player into a skeleton.

5 The Sp-eye-glass

The Sp-eye-glass is a unique item in the Shadowlands because its usefulness extends far past where developers likely intended it to be used. This item “allows you to see what is hidden” and shows various stealthed mobs and secrets around the Shadowlands.

However, this item can also be used to see stealthed enemy players. This made many wonder whether using this item in PvP was an exploit, but Blizzard has yet to take any action on it.

4 Bone Apple Tea

Once again, World of Warcraft would not have the same serious-yet-comical tone if not for its references. This time, though, it’s not a reference to a meme – it’s a reference to a ubiquitous internet phrase. Bone Apple Tea is often used ironically as a caption to pictures of food, but originally was a misspelling of the French phrase Bon Appetit.

Vendors in Maldraxxus will sell basic healing and mana regeneration goods just like normal, including the drink Bone Apple Tea. They likely chose this phrase over the equally silly Bone App the Teeth because, frankly, who wants to eat teeth?

3 Predatory Plagueroc Mount

The Predatory Plagueroc mount is a 2% drop chance mount from the rare Gieger in the House of Constructs. The rare can only be killed and looted by members of the Necrolord covenant but can be used by characters in any covenant.

The mount is a vicious-looking hulking monstrosity that looks like a rhino, a pterodactyl, and a stegosaurus all at once. Interestingly, the flavor text implied that Gieger ate the Plagueroc, which may have been ripped out of his stomach upon defeat.

2 Sorrowbane Weapon, Pet, And Achievement

Sorrowbane is a unique-looking weapon that also comes with an achievement and a pet if the player picks it up the correct way. It is stuck in the ground in the open-world Theatre of Pain, attached to Oonar’s Arm. The player can attempt to pull it out at any time, but it won’t work unless they are strong enough.

The player must acquire a Potion of Unusual Strength, Strength of Blood, a Scroll of Teleport: Theatre of Pain and be ready to stack world buffs all within a time limit to become strong enough to retrieve this sword. The player is given the pet Oonar’s Arm, the weapon Sorrowbane, and the Harvester of Sorrow achievement for this endeavor.

1 Sojourner of Maldraxxus

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, upon first glance, seems restrictive. Players must choose a covenant, partake in their campaign quests, and earn renown within their respective zones to progress effectively. However, side quests and world quests are completable by players in any zone, regardless of covenant choice.

There are lots of interesting side quests in Maldraxxus, including the Read Between The Lines quest that yields the Necronom-i-nom. Plus, the achievement Loremaster of the Shadowlands is quite a trophy to work towards.
