The Shapeshifter Passes Another Kickstarter Funding Milestone

With the Kickstarter campaign finally coming to a close, The Shapeshifter has reached yet another stretch goal in funding, bringing another 2 extra chapters to the game.

The last time The Shapeshifter passed a goal on Kickstarter, the aim was to use the extra euros to port the game to the NES, acting as the campaign’s end goal. However, with so much momentum, developer Greenboy Games created one last Kickstarter. Despite being another 20,000 euros away, it was reached before the campaign’s end yesterday, March 18. The final stretch goal unlocked an additional 2 chapters, The Undersea World and Cableway, bringing The Shapeshifter up to a total of 7 chapters.

According to the campaign’s Kickstarter page, The Shapeshifter would have been the longest game in playable hours that Greenboy has made to date with just the original 3 hours. But now with the additional chapters, it’s possible that Greenboy’s upcoming Game Boy title will take around 6 hours to complete as players lead Elliot through a fantasy adventure in which he can shapeshift into different animals and objects.

At the end of the campaign, The Shapeshifter saw the support of 897 backers and approximately $72,000, meaning that it was both funded by over 1000% of its original goal but it has also been the most successful Kickstarter campaign for a Game Boy project to date.

Thanks to one of the stretch goals, The Shapeshifter will be delivered in May of this year. However, for those hoping to pick up a NES version of the game, they’ll have to wait a bit longer. Greenboy approximates that the NES port will be ready in late 2021 or early 2022.

The Shapeshifter launches for the Game Boy in May 2021 with an NES version in development.
